It's Mike. I wish I only talked about tabletop games, writing, and comic books (and tea), but politics keep happening. I like He/Him, and I like She/Her, and I don't like Twitter anymore.

*shrug* I don't know what the discourse is, but y'know. By the numbers ...
Getting caught up on overnight discourse.

You should want everyone on the planet to lead a happy life unless they've done something unforgivable.

Weird low-level offenses, like overstaying in a country they weren't born in, aren't crimes worthy of scorn.

If you can't meet this basic standard, fuck you.

Current events are leading me to think about a whole lot of variants on The Wrong Son Died meme and none of them are advisable to post. But you can think about them.

Every time I push back on something rotten and terrible online, I am given ten more rotten, terrible things by the algorithm that thinks it's what I want to see.

I feel like The Rain King in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

You know how the Soc Dem parties in Europe entrenched the welfare state? By winning, repeatedly, until the conservative parties gave up. For now. And they still nibble at the edges!

Public-facing Facebook pages about health are currently the most toxic place online, as far as I can tell.

It's always some city employee telling people to PLEASE get vaccinated and not believe these freaks, and 200,000 bots from halfway across the world Laugh React and scold them.

I’m suddenly thinking about all the people who’ve been demanding that elected Democrats put their lives on the line to fight Trump when those same people couldn’t be bothered to fill in a fucking bubble on a piece of paper a year ago to prevent all of this.
Earlier this morning, President Trump threatened me and a group of service and veteran Members of Congress with arrest, trial, and death by hanging.

Here’s my response:

I mean, the truth is depressing enough. if you care about "leftish" causes—liberalism, progressivism, self-governance—you will have to fight your entire life. the struggle is centuries old, and no one alive today will live to see the end game.

I wasn't really on Politics Twitter during the Biden administration, and I think it saved my life.

I don't have the mental fortitude to be a space researcher. Facing space every day would have me in that machine they tried to get Zaphod Beeblebrox with.

Let me tell you about the other Epstein files the Trump administration is STILL HIDING — records that aren’t affected by the bill Congress passed today.

Narrator: A jury held Trump liable for sexual abuse.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna: "We know that Mr President is clean. He's the most investigated man in US history. And definitely I'm frankly glad that those emails came out because it proved what we have been saying the whole thing."

Any other administration sunk, etc.
The Trump administration used the federal government to help Andrew Tate—an accused sex trafficker who brags about abusing women—get his devices back and ease travel restrictions.

Tell us again how “law and order” works?
Epstein isn't the only sex trafficker with alleged ties to Trump
The Trump administration reportedly intervened in a federal investigation of accused sex trafficker Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, who are both right-wing influencers who have promoted ...

I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Really ties all the threads together, this one
Andrew Johnson — a Jan. 6 rioter who went by "Am🇺🇸rican T🇺🇸rrorist” on Elon Musk’s platform — has been arrested on child molestation charges, with police saying he used the promise of a taxpayer-funded payout from Trump's DOJ to try and keep one of the victims silent.

One reason why we can't normalize "Government is always evil" type shit is that so many people thought this was always normal and happening, when actually, agencies used to protect sensitive data from each-other as a matter of policy.

The things that seem to have a chance of shifting the balance are things that make the lives of people who voted for him materially worse — economic collapse, ICE stalking their neighbors, fascism affecting them personally — and not the same shit he’s been doing on stage since 2015.

Only jumping on Bsky once a day means I just found out like just now that the shutdown actually ended? No one IRL was talking about it at all.

I had kind of assumed the House wouldn't pass it. Oh, well.

I also kinda do not want to dredge it back up. But I find it fascinating that I had no idea.
