the 250th anniversary of 1776 is less of a celebration, more of a reenactment
“I know, we’ll take this one American city, regarded as a hotbed of seditious sentiment, and subject it to a heavy-handed punitive crackdown. and that will cow the rest of the Americans into quiet submission and snuff out the embers of opposition at their source”

there's research on this that confirms that large landlords have more robust anti-discrimination processes. www.lewis.ucla.edu/2022/07/13/2...
Episode 29: Landlords, Discrimination, and Eviction with Eva Rosen and Philip Garboden - UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies
Surprisingly little research exists into how landlords operate. Professors Eva Rosen and Philip Garboden interviewed 150+ landlords nationwide to better understand their motivations.

I love how AI helps us round out weaknesses.

*My* weakness is reading. I use AI to ask questions and dive deep into papers that otherwise I would be unable to fully read.
"No one will read papers anymore with AI" I've read over 500 research papers this year while experimenting constantly with AI coding and read that paper I just linked while Claude code fixed a really stupid citations formatting error I was having 🤷‍♀️

Whenever people (correctly) argue that Gamergate was a pivotal event in the development of the modern right, I always get the sense that a lot of people who object are doing so out of a sense of embarrassment that something so stupid could be so significant

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

For a literal decade the official CBP policy has been “don’t stand in front of or behind vehicles” because the decade before that their internally commissioned studies found that agents were putting themselves in front of vehicles so as to shoot the occupants
Because he put himself in front of the car to have an excuse to shoot!

Calling her a ‘fu*king bitch’ immediately after shooting her 3 times in the head clearly indicates he fired his gun IN ANGER and NOT in self defence.

He kills her because he can’t control his anger.

This is murder. Any society that deems it otherwise is not a just society.

Anti-ICE protesters are having a rolling noise demo and protest in downtown Minneapolis targeting hotels where federal agents are reportedly staying -- starting at the Canopy by Hilton and going to the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel. Police have just arrived as we are posting this.

I think I agree with Propter but I want to know what headline he would write instead -- if we want a bad narrative to go away the best strategy is to displace it with a better one
I'm going to be very blunt here: headlines like this and articles like this are a significant part of our media problem because they make people believe things that aren't true
Top Democrats decline to say if they would rein in ICE after Minnesota shooting

economic limbo: how low can you go without falling?
every republican president destroys the economy
2025 is now, officially, the worst year for job creation outside of recession since 2003.

Rest in power to Keith Porter who was murdered by an ICE agent in Los Angeles.

It’s terrible that his name is just now being circulated, but now that it is, continue to say his name.
Advocates want legal action after man shot and killed by off-duty ICE agent in Northridge
Advocates argue that the off-duty ICE agent wasn't trained for the situation and should have called police and waited for them to arrive.

good news: today is the deadline for news in the united states. starting tomorrow nothing newsworthy is permitted to happen.

except "it". "it" may happen at any time.

I would appreciate it if we didnt frontload all the news
btw tomorrow is jobs day and the first day we could possibly get a SCOTUS ruling on Trump's tariffs, in case you thought there wasn't enough news recently
