Calling the requirement for a judicial warrant before entering a person’s home one of the Democrats’ “new restrictions on federal immigration agents” crosses the line into outright falsehood. It’s in the Bill of Rights! A rule as old as the republic.

I mean this is just the "should we hug the flag or not?" argument again. "Restore the international rules-based order but without the hypocrisy" is the same thing as a new order, just framed differently.
i guess my critique of the AOC remarks at the munich security conference (and ig biden's people as well) is that they all want to frame the current status quo as the result of a "system betrayed" and not, instead, as the result of deliberate choices, the system itself *being* the issue.

and to be more specific, i repost as i make sense of my timeline, so you will see things grouped along a common theme often, and i'm fond of multiples of 2, or things that add up to multiples of 2. and yes i also walk in patterns when i see stonework/tilework on the ground.
is my timeline a bubble? you better believe it

This is pretty good. We've all seen all of these videos and stuff but I bet a lot of less online people haven't, so it's good that they are pulling it all together so that more people can get a sense of what everyone here already knows.
What 74 days of federal operations looked like in Minnesota, frame by frame
CNN reviewed and geolocated videos that demonstrate just some examples of federal agents’ tactics in the Twin Cities.

Amazing article by @gregsargent.bsky.social on how thanks to Dem governors, regular citizens with video recording phones, and even the excesses of ICE and the Trump admin, are changing public perception of immigration, individual freedom, civil rights, and what it means to be American.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Star Trek's utopianism has always operated on multiple levels, assuming the best of people on multiple dimensions for no reward but the satisfaction of self actualization and it's great to see the edges of that. The flaws reveal the strengths and give them meaning.

Unironically yes, LOWER DECKS is about how the response to the disappointments of the post-Cold War era and the complexity of the modern world should not be despair or cynicism but instead a recommitment to the original ideals of liberalism, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

if AOC is too right-wing for you to support, you do not believe in electoral politics and should just be honest about that
Someone who won’t vote for AOC because she’s insufficiently left for them is someone whose vote we will never get and they should be treated as such. Also they only exist online

AOC making her case why she should be president (not directly, but may as well be). We need her moral clarity and intelligence in the White House. An Ocasio-Cortez White House would mean sanity returning to the United States.

Just chiming in to second this from the enby experience; I have been explicitly accused of being a gender traitor for both a. Being a member of the Bergen county democratic committee and b. Being an economist in manufacturing. I’ve also been accused of straight up “faking it” which is…. Not fun!
it is absolutely a thing that happens that if a trans person is trying to be a regular person who belongs to the normal political party that supports their rights, members of The Community will "call them in" and tell them that their insufficient radicalism should embarass them

This is the crux of this ongoing & silly disagreement: Gavin Newsom believes in nothing cares about no one but himself, & would destroy us all if it serves his purposes. He's also a member of a party that would under every feasible circumstance ensure it does not serve his purposes.
"had the state stand down"

California is actively suing a healthcare provider who stopped providing transition care right now as we speak

he also signed 47 other trans rights bills

nobody is saying that he's perfect but you are simply not living in the real world

As a newly-out (<1 year) bisexual, it really is striking how much being queer is treated as a subaltern of niche left-wing radical belief system, as opposed to a descriptive term of sexual attraction or gender identity.
Lot of ppl out there that can’t handle the fact that being trans is entirely orthogonal to one’s values and basic beliefs

a very persistent thing on here is

poster a: untrue claim about a political figure - often a justly dislikable or objectionable one
poster b: correction of untrue claim
poster a: oh so you support them

it's part of the general comprehension collapse but it's a distinct dynamic.
i have never supported Gavin Newsom in any election and hopefully i never will

Yep. This will have a huge impact on the availability of habeas for people who are still being arrested in Minnesota.
In other words, long enough that habeas petitions can be filed on their behalf in Minnesota before they're whisked off to an immigration detention facility somewhere in the Fifth Circuit (where, under that court's current law, they wouldn't be eligible for a bond hearing).
Incredibly powerful opinion chronicling the awfulness in Whipple and the ways it interfered with the right to counsel.

One key part of the ruling (that ICE will likely appeal ASAP); Judge Brasel bars ICE from transferring anyone out of Minnesota within 72 hours of arrest.
