Democracy is the way. Truth and justice matter.

Russia can end the war today by leaving Ukraine.

Less proud to be an American than I used to be. I really thought we were better than this.

6/ Finally, when it comes to security - Trump's tepid and uncertain support for Ukraine, dubious commitment to NATO and general "not my monkeys/circus" approach all means he's visibly feeding arsenic to his most important hostage.

Europe increasingly doesn't think anything they do will rescue it.

5/ Trump's favourability rating in Europe being at a pretty low ebb in many countries massively increases the price for being seen to accomodate him one iota more than is necessary.

Doubly so when you can't count on him not to Truth out that he made you his bitch and that you deserved it.

1/ Trump may of course respond to this by freaking out and issuing all sorts of tariff threats.

However as with giving up Greenland I really don't think the EU can afford the precedent of a criminal investigation at the member state level being unwound through threats to tax US citizen purchases.

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

Russian terror bombing of Ukraine continues. Ukraine's allies donate generators but not long range missiles to strike Russia's capacity to terrorize. Western media ignore the humanitarian disaster altogether.
Ukraine was rocked by a massive overnight Russian assault, with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles slamming into the country’s energy system.

Rescue and recovery operations are continuing across the country.

They're literally running out of lawyers in a state where the district judges are practically at war with the administration.
BREAKING: 8 more U.S. Attorneys in MN resign from Trump’s DOJ in protest as backlash grows.
This isn’t normal; isn’t routine reshuffling. It’s a rebellion.
Last month, 6 veteran prosecutors quit in protest. Normal staffing for the MN DOJ’s office is around 50 attorneys. They’re down to just 9.

Brad Karp, the chair of Paul Weiss, is referenced in many Epstein files.

New firm statement: "Mr. Karp attended two group dinners in New York City and had a small number of social interactions by email, all of which he regrets,"

This is an update from the statement issued by Karp in December.

Conservatives backing reactionaries is almost always the only way that they can come to power.

Portuguese conservatives appear to be taking the correct approach to dealing with fascists in their country.

It's so critical to understand and to teach conservatives that fascism isn't conservative.

Yes. This is true of ALL these dudes
I think that the crucial insight for dealing with Trump is that he has never experienced any meaningful consequences in his entire life and as a result, deterrence does not work on him the way it does for others.
Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"
