I think that if you create a product that can auto-generate CSAM you should probably be put in prison for the rest of your life quickly after being made to push a giant lever that turns your machine off in a cinematic wave like shutting out the lights in a big box store

I think people did not want to believe the obvious truth: that January 6th was an attempted coup that was abetted by the highest levels of the Republican Party.

It would’ve meant arresting, trying, and possibly imprisoning many of America’s most powerful politicians.
I think people weren’t really ready to come to terms with what it meant. A lot of the policy response after (e.g., suggestions to add a domestic terrorism statute) missed the forest for the trees. These weren’t rogue extremists — it was key members of one of two major political parties here.

If a dog owner trains their dog to attack, doesn't take precautions to restrain the dog, and that dog kills someone, the owner is guilty of homicide. What's the difference between that scenario and Musk/X/Grok in regard to CSAM production?
What Grok/X has done is unprecedented. There are no other instances of a major company affirmatively facilitating the production of child pornography. Treating this as the inevitable result of generative AI and social media is a harrowing mistake.

The media needs to recognize that there is a marked difference between the endemic problem of CSAM being posted to social media platforms and a platform giving users a tool to actively create CSAM.

the only way it was able to do this is because, as everyone including elon and sam altman have known for years, the datasets for these AIs contain a lot of CSAM

the fact that what just happened doesn't shut down twitter and have elon et al tried in court for allowing is fucking insane
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform
