I definitely feel like every country is desperately scrambling to dump resources on figuring out how to make GenAI be “something” because they’re terrified that someone else will have the breakthrough first and they’ll be left behind, and it’s become a sunk cost swirl around the drain.
I cannot express how bad this story is for generative AI. OpenAI is burning hundreds of millions of dollars to try and make GPT-5 a meaningful upgrade, and it isn't working. Where does all of this go? How does this result in anything?

I always feel for the retail workers who have to work on Christmas Eve. It feels as if these stores remain open on Christmas Eve to rake in one extra day of holiday profit. I wish they would sacrifice that one extra day of profit so that retail workers could spend the day with their loved ones.
