i think it’s a price worth paying but if our politicians keep cussing like this it’s not going to be cool anymore. we can largely offset the impact of this by green-lighting and fast-tracking development of new cuss words

What I learned this week is we can stop being a poor country if everyone drops out of college and starts working at a younger age, and we all stop enjoying extravagances like spicy food
fish sauce and chili peppers are her go-to for inflexible ingredients? really?
why are we like this in america

Bezos spent $75m on the melania documentary (which is unlikely to make 25% of that back in ticket sales) at the same time he is destroying the Washington post. It is remarkable just how pathetic our billionaire class is
I personally do not think some rich man should be able to buy an institution like this like a toy and then break it when he doesn’t want to play with it anymore. bsky.app/profile/benm...

Can’t recommend this episode enough — two voices that are in my regular pod rotation, coring right into all the ways political discourse in the U.S. has gone so thoroughly off the rails. Informative? Probably. Cathartic? As all get-out
Today on Volts: I'm joined by the great @michaelhobbes.bsky.social to discuss "reactionary centrism," an intellectual tendency that's come to dominate US public life. You know the type: would never view themselves as conservative, yet finds voluntary pronoun use vastly more aggravating than fascism.
All about "reactionary centrism"
Michael Hobbes joins me to diagnose the pundit class's obsession with scolding the left while the right burns down the house.

I got scared when I saw the byline that Kadie Bell Sata had left SDOT but, whew, she's still on the org chart. Kadie's great. And it's cool that SDOT people can post in the Urbanist as private citizens under their own byline.
Op-Ed: Revive I-5 Is the Missed Off-Ramp from Car Dependence » The Urbanist
# Revive I-5 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reduce car dependency and encourage transit, walking, rolling, and biking, but the Seattle region is letting it slip between its fingers. It's not...

I visited the far off lands of “The Seattle Center” today to see these fabled “retractable bollards.” 🛫🌎🌍🛬

A worker named Ralph who has been there for 25 years said they work great 👍. You can get through with a keycard or call box.

Perhaps someday we’ll import this exotic solution to Pike Place 💡

(Still a Pete fan tho)
Everywhere I go, people are talking about the same thing: the president’s failure to bring down prices and make life in this country more affordable.

With the 2024 passage of Sammy’s Law, the City was granted the authority to lower speed limits to 20 mph.

But the Adams administration implemented it on just 1.5% of eligible streets.

In 2025, 82% of New Yorkers killed in traffic were killed on streets eligible for Sammy’s Law.
