The whole argument ignores the extent to which both parties have actively worked to hollow out the capacity of the state as economically active, concerned with distribution and able to deliver public services. What he is describing is ‘fringe’ only because it is too often all that is left.

X/grok creating and platforming sexually explicit material of children isn’t just a lapse, it’s criminal.

Elon Musk and his companies should be held to account.

It’s been over a year since I dumped X. It was the right decision then and even more so now. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok said “lapses in safeguards” led to the generation of sexualized images of minors that it posted to social media site X.

The challenge for progressives (& govt in particular) is to appreciate they are in a very different sort of ideological fight, and respond accordingly. Hints of this in PM’s speech at party conference in September but much, much more needed, as @parth0 & I argue here.

Shamima Begum was the beginning of something in so many ways, one of which was 'the last government's inability to just do its job properly (in this case by passing legislation that would have allowed it to prosecute her here at home) and instead going 'no option but to undermine all our rights'.
There should be literally no circumstances, ever, where citizenship is can be revoked. If you literally sign up to fight for an opposing army in a war, then we should prosecute you for treason not revoke citizenship
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

The legal team needs witness statements from firefighters who served in:

Jeff Simpson died from cancer in 2018 and became the first UK firefighter to have his death officially recorded as caused by the job.

Jeff never smoked, but after decades of exposure to toxic smoke and contaminants, he developed a rare cancer.

Now his wife Anne is fighting for a legal precedent.

I've written about the ways Your Party's launch debacle is like, and unlike, Change UK's launch debacle, for the @newstatesman1913.bsky.social:

“An origin party shapes priorities and blind spots; both Change UK and Your Party suffer from the fact that many of the individuals involved seem unable to psychologically leave the Labour Party”

Really interesting piece on what Corbyn and Sultana can learn from the fate of new centrist parties
Setting up new parties is difficult! In this piece I compare Your Party's travails with those of Change UK and the bevy of new centrist parties that sprung up in the 2017 parliament and so some shameless plugging of my forthcoming book.

Some highlights from the X reaction to Sofie Jenkinson's concept of "Silly Sausage Britain":

I don't think the world of X posters – where people seem to think Mr Blobby has been killed for his meat by asylum seekers who are currently roasting chunks of his pink flesh over a flaming barrel in the car park of a job centre – bears much relation to the reality of life in the UK, if I'm honest.
The racists on X have found this piece, via a wonderful piece @jeevunsandher.bsky.social has written for @renewaljournal.bsky.social. Mostly I just feel sad for them that they see Britain as a cruel & horrible place with no joy but the level of hatred & abuse on X is awful

"Most of us basically love our country, even if begrudgingly – not the version we’re told to, or even presented with, but the one we really see and live in every day. Silly Sausage Britain is the Britain most of us reside in, and love."

We need someone alienatingly political. We need a neek. We need a prime minister who subscribes to Renewal.
Finding this quite bizarre, the (growing) number of MPs who will say 'problem is the PM has no politics, is not politically experienced....answer is that we need a *different* hunky man with a long and impressive pre-politics career'.
Come on you are just making this up now

Two ways to read this. One is “she lost on every substantive claim, completely failed in her attempts to ban trans staff from the workplace, and won mild procedural victories against her employers handling of her case”.
The other way is, I guess, “point one is longer so it must be more important”

On a purely factual point, Trevor Phillips’s column in the Times misrepresents our reporting in casting doubts on claims that there were more boys called Patel than Smith at Dulwich in 1980 (we did not report 1976 as the year it occurred). 1980 roll shows 13 Patels and 12 Smiths.
