It sometimes feels ludicrous to study literature when jackbooted thugs are murdering people in the streets and shipping innocent people to camps. But if I'm going to be an academic in such a moment, at least I get to study this.

If you are making stars, your digestive system is obviously overstressed and you should slow down. Sleep is not death and you should notice improvements in an eon or two. Planets with liquid water are a favourite amongst our readers and sometimes surprises by evolving delightful snacks.

It is restful, I only have time for maybe one evening a week, and the doctor *really* does not comprehend.
Any suggestions of medication will have me adjusting my intake of the suggestor upwards. Slowly, starting with the feet.
Friends, please speak with a doctor if you spend more than 3 nights per week floating through the cosmos as an ancient tentacled god, slumbering for eons and waiting for the right moment to unleash your madness upon the universe.

I loved this setting, the accurate (for it's time) 3D star map, the hard SF feel - the French Empire 🇫🇷 complex and interesting Aliens (the secret of the Pentapods). Fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun...

This is a great expression of the thing I keep saying about text-generating algorithms: “Hallucination” isn’t some kind of glitch. ALL their responses are hallucinations. Sometimes they align with reality, sometimes they don’t.
The only thing ChatGPT ever does.

This looks useful, I think…
Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).

One feels that this questgiver may not be entirely reliable.
Last Christmas Ich gave thee myne hearte
The verye next daye ther came a wolf
Wyth sinews of whispers - quiet as frost -
And the wolf stole myne hearte, fled
To a tower out of tyme biyonde all the stars.
Seek now myne hearte,
Return it within a yeare and a daye:

A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

When I volunteered at the Austin Nature & Science Center 300 years ago, this was phrased to me as "their heads are full of optic nerves & murder. There's no room for anything else."
Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."
