Actually though once we add in what I handed in yesterday I apparently presented to the relevant editors... 271,347 words of fiction in 2025?

Not even going to try to reckon how many words were written and discarded or written for myself or written for other purposes (a manylots of words)

I was going to do one of those 'what I did in 2025' but whatever. I adopted this fluffy little bug in March and I think that was the best thing I did this year.

Wild that out of all things from medieval cosmology, the thing about the ocean being full of monsters turned out to be correct.

I'm truly honored that the Transfeminine Review has awarded Notes from a Regicide "Best Transfeminine Representation by a Non-Transfeminine Author." This whole award page is full of incredible recs, including some work that was not on my radar before -- they do such good work at TR!
Over 275 authors, editors, critics and diehard readers came together over the last month to vote on their favorite transfeminine books of the year.

It's my honor to present the 2025 TFR Reader's Choice Awards!

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone who voted 🩷

Just put two larger walnut pieces in the shop in my "Offering Vessels" theme. A nice lipped bowl and a walnut burl and myrtle vessel. The sun was also cooperating today.

You’re going to be okay. Someone will hate your book. You’re going to be okay. Someone will not get what you’re trying to do with your art and judge you. You’re going to be okay. You’re going to keep creating, in 2026, because you need it and because the world needs you to. Okay?

so while most of you have been absolutely lovely — and thanks for that btw! — it is sadly time for the quarterly reminder: if you are being "playfully" rude in the replies of someone you have not met, you are just being rude. you have not yet earned the good faith required for joking rudeness!

In contrast, here's a photo that was exceedingly easy. This female golden stag beetle just sat there, posing. But it's such a cool-looking animal that it makes the cut for merely existing (Australia, December 2025).

The Rider, the Ride, the Rich Man's Wife by @premeemohamed.com

"Story hits the ground running, thrilling events ensue right up to the very end. A very fun read for fans of folkloric tales with high stakes, beautiful prose, and characters you care about enough to root for against impossible odds."

Love to send those emails with the subject line "Hello we have a problem! And by we I mean you!" and attach the file :)

Editors should be paid a lot more money :)

Because some of them have to put up with me :)

Thinking of how I can trick romance authors into promoting their books with a one sentences description of what actually happens again. We gotta ease off the trope only vibes. WHAT HAPPENS!

*eyes hammers nervously* I maybe had a few candidates as an answer, but I'm just going to say that in January I handed in what I think is my very favourite short story I've ever written? Maybe not BEST, but certainly one inspiring a STARTLING amount of FONDNESS in my insectile little heart
What's something you did with your writing in 2025 that you're genuinely proud of? (If you disparage yourself on this post I will beat you with hammers) #WritingPrompt

Fist bump to anyone else caught between the need to bow down & accept the dire, broken reality of the attention economy to continue surviving via their creativity & a desire to disconnect which becomes more vast, and more potentially vital to their sense of inner peace, with every year that passes.
