The approximately $150 million at play here (Kelly’s $50 million buyout, maybe $100 million salary for Kiffin) could easily fund several academic departments for the next 10+ years.

Of course, LSU — the “U” actually stands for “university” — is cutting programs and freezing academic hires.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Literally buying one copy of a book at your local indie bookstore can mean the difference in whether they buy future books from that author.

Haven't received as many contributions as usual for this year's lists--could be many things, but one aspect is surely that our ability to get this in front of people is much diminished. If you know folks whose stuff should be on here, please suggest it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...

They’re saying 3 mutually incompatible things about the tariffs:

1) They are long term and will cause onshoring
2) They are long term and will raise revenue (which only happens in absence of onshoring)
3) They are a tactic to get others to lower tariffs (and therefore aren’t long term)

LUTNICK: “Of course they are” open to negotiation. 🤡
