I've been saying it a lot, but these deaths line up with what happened in early concentration camps during other regimes: Deaths from poor conditions, disease, or abuse. These deaths are not accidental. They are the direct result of a camp system that is designed to harm those being imprisoned.
I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office.
ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for.

Honestly, on an emotional level, I find the parents being at worst mildly perturbed rather than soul-crushingly haunted by the death of their child more upsetting than the disease itself, silly as that sounds.

The trouble is that this is the closest approach to the truth--Trump doesn't give a shit who lives or dies, he's barely even paying attention to what's going on from one day to the next besides what's on the teevee--that the Times can make without its coverage seeming intolerably "biased".

I say this often but as someone who’s been in K-12 education for 15 years, the speed of LGBTQ acceptance in high schools has felt dizzying, not only in terms of more students feeling safe coming out earlier but in terms of queer people being represented in more diverse social groups.
Being queer is weird because any possible year before the late 2000s SUCKED
