I recently came across "Survive the Tyrant!"

It's a guide to living through and making a difference in a country with an authoritarian, oppressive, or dangerous regime, in the style of a ttrpg.

I thought I'd share.

2026 Primary thread!
okay, so, with Dems successfully keeping anyone up in 2026 for voting for this turd let's take a look at who's up in 2026 anyway:

1. Cory Booker - apparently involved behind the scenes, constantly looking for bipartisanship. I don't dislike him personally but he doesn't have what we need. Primary.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

Hey just a reminder that it only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove and replace Chuck Schumer as minority leader. They don't do it because the majority of Senate Democrats approve of the way he does politics.

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

This is totally ridiculous. I remember last shutdown working to ensure that CONTRACTORS got back pay because we all knew that federal workers get back pay.

These people are totally worthless and continually moving the goalposts.
One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

Also, my peeps, if you're skeeting a fucking wall of text, you should copy that wall, and PASTE IT INTO ALT TEXT!
Go to SETTINGS>ACCESSABILITY > REQUIRE ALT TEXT and slide the slide to on.

I also want to mention ALT TEXT. Now, with a flip of a switch, you too can let other bsky peeps participate in your shenanigans if they have screen readers or don't understand the context of your pix. (who is this person? Why should I care?)

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Having a kid with significant disabilities in Gaza is so hard but on top of that Qamar also has toddler twin boys- the need for food and a warm place to stay is high for this family
I‘m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Qamar. Qamar has three children Elias, 5 and twins Abdul and Muhammad who are two and a half. Elias was born with cerebral palsy and has a variety of health issues, including lung problems for the smoke from the wood stove in their tent.

adding to this: I think anti-trans ads will still play a role in GOP primaries (b/c they're transphobic). & *some* Dem pundits will still blame trans ppl (b/c they're transphobic). but hopefully most voters now understand these tactics as scapegoating & won't fall for them

From Evan: it's a huge night of hope for the trans community. The Republicans went all in on anti-trans ads in multiple races and so far there's no sign it got them anything.

Perhaps the page can be turned on blaming us for Harris' loss last year.
