Let’s never forget rationing ventilators and Zoom funerals. Boris Johnson and his cronies partied while our loved ones lay dying alone. COVID-19 was the worst public health crisis in a century. We should have locked down earlier. To some of us, PPE was not a get-rich-quick commodity.

It’s a sign of how insane the news cycle is these days that this historic failure of government policy got just one day of news coverage this week.

Not saying that’s right or wrong, but it’s astonishing how quickly the agenda moves on these days.
BREAKING: UK’s response to Covid was “too little too late”. Acting faster could have saved 23,000 lives in England according to the public inquiry.

Boris Johnson presided over a “toxic, sexist, chaotic culture” in No10, where rule-breaking seriously undermined public confidence.

"My NHS colleagues & I weren’t willing to let the bodies pile high in their thousands. Boris no longer mentions them at all."

My piece on the responses to the UK Covid-UK Inquiry report that try to airbrush the dead away.

Sincere thanks, @theobserveruk.bsky.social.

Similar stuff happening in the demise of The Vicar’s Wife - clergy spouses obviously still exist (Hi, It’s Me) but nearly all work full time and are no longer managing their spouse’s ministerial life for them.
Also, if you look at that timeframe, it's also when companies stopped letting people support their executive function by having a secretary

ADHD causes far less trouble if your wife and your secretary run your life for you

The women were on mother's little helper

New Labour policy is that if you've ever had to borrow money because this country is incredibly expensive or if you're sick and therefore don't work and pay tax, you can never secure permanent immigration status.
Just let that sink in.

Because the law is an expensive tool to use; because this means it is mostly rich people who get to use it; because rich people are usually men; the law has become a tool of the patriarchy, one which men use to impose their will on women.
In situations where the law tries to decide this for you, I hope there are people like @goodlawproject.bsky.social willing to stand up for your rights to not be property.

This is no longer AI. It's a programme designed to give a specific response. Like back in the 80s we learned BASIC and you could write a programme that would make the computer answer the question "who is the best?" with "Arthur is the best". I was eight years old and it was fun. It wasn't AI.
I guess one difference between me and Elon Musk is that, if I was gaming an AI to say these things about me, and everyone could see that I had done this, I'd have simply no choice but to set myself on fire.
