My other half has made me promise not to argue with strangers online. Sometimes - like today - she goes out and I forget. How bad can it be? I wonder. And every single time it’s terrible, and I realised that I hitched myself to a wise and wonderful person who helps me make good life choices.

Lunchbreak in the park with my bff - we ate cheese toasties and looked at the trees. It was terribly wholesome, and a nice break from my spreadsheets.

I'm staying with my parents. I'm making a cake today. My mum likes to hold onto things. Behold, from the back of her baking cupboard - almond extract with a best before date of March 1996. It pre dates the Blair Government, and my 15th birthday. Incredible scenes.

This is such a good article which really gets to the crux of the matter.

I’m off to see Patti Smith play tonight - she’s been my musical guru and obsession since I was 16. I’m so excited!

Hi! I pooed on the floor at 3am, ate my way through the third dog bed in six months and then pulled the sewing machine off the table and broke it! And all in one day! Good thing I’m cute. #dogshaming

First ever trip to the pub for our rescue dog. He did v well, given that he still finds lots of things very overwhelming. 💗

This juxtaposition in my feed says it all. The Greens make the moral case for why Farage is a human poo stain, Starmer talks like a soulless lawyer about money. FFS.

My dogs have spent the last hour carrying out careful and nuanced negotiations over a beef jerky chew that they both want. I’m now pretty sure they could solve the Middle East conflict, if only we’d give them a chance.

My son did a seven mile coastal walk today. I presumed hunger, so made a vast amount of scrambled eggs for dinner. Turns out he ‘wasn’t feeling eggs’ - so these chaps got a second supper and are now very happy indeed.

Get a dog, they said. Companionship, protection, those big eyes and fluffy ears, they said. Well, I've just had a wrestle half a dead bird out of my dog's mouth and now he's mad at me because of it. Good thing he's cute.

Choose 20 female authors whose work you admire. One author per day for 20 days, in no particular order.

Day 2 : Laurie R King! Her Mary Russell books are just fantastic, I've read them all multiple times. Adore her characters, her storytelling, her humour and her world building.
