Your challenge for the day is to invent a ReformUK policy. On Shrove Tuesday next year we get to see if they’ve adopted it.

Remember, it should appeal to insane pensioners and absolutely nobody else. QT with yours!

9/In Munich, I heard many calls for technical fixes/practical solutions/a few nice words. But ultimately, they do not address the core problem -- a fundamental and deep psychological rupture in trust, which will take generations to reclaim.

Warmer words but relations remain frosty between the U.S. and its old friends in Europe
Secretary of State Marco Rubio proclaimed a “golden age” Monday in U.S. relations — not with Germany or France, but with Hungary, as he met with strongman Viktor Orbán.

A Reform UK Ltd government would have nothing for you if you were a trans youngster who was good at computer coding
Braverman says social transitioning would be banned in all schools, "no ifs or buts". She says the 50% target for university education would be replaced with a 50% target for kids going into trades like electricians and plumbing. As ever, I'll believe it when it's the MPs' own kids who do this.

Now we can add fracking to Reform UK's list of policies that the British public will absolutely hate. Apart from immigration, every single thing they say is on the wrong side of public opinion. And they're even at the extreme end on that. Should be the easiest clownshow ever to take down.
Tide says he would prioritise oil and gas, both onshore* and offshore, and end "net stupid zero".

*This would presumably involve fracking, which is generally very unpopular with both locals and MPs in places its meant to happen.

Literally nobody in this country used the phrase 'DEI' before January last year. America-brained shite.
Loud applause as Nigel Farage says Suella Braverman will be in charge of education and equalities, which will include “taking on DEI”

The Norwegian Government ordered a stop in trading with Russian assets shortly after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The goal was to divest, but today - four years later - the Pension Fund still owns shares in 46 companies listed on the Moscow stock exchange.
Norway’s wealth fund stuck with stocks in 46 Russian companies
On paper the stocks are worth nearly 1,4 billion Norwegian kroner (€124 million), but in practice it is very difficult to get rid of the investments.

I’m in Westminster where Nigel Farage is about to unveil his ‘shadow cabinet’ and the decor is slightly bonkers. Looks like he’s going to launch a Simon Cowell-era boyband instead.

Braverman says children are taught about gender rather than facts, and to view the UK with "shame".

Criticising schools can be politically risky, as many parents tend to view their kids' particular school, and teachers, with affection, and might dislike being told they are in fact rubbish.

A thread of watching stuff so we don't have to. The striking, but unsurprising, thing, is how unserious Reform are about even the things they want. It's all reheated, end-of-the-bar sloganeering.
