LNG vs rooftop solar.
LNG requires a $2.7B infrastructure investment, most of the work will happen in one place - Taranaki.
Us consumers will pay for LNG generated power FOREVER.

If the Govt subsidised $2.7B of rooftop solar, there'd be work across the motu.
The electricity would be FREE forever.

Now imagine if we lived in say a small island with the 9th longest coastline in the world at 15,000 km (36% more than Great Britain), & that island happened to protrude into the roaring 40s, a continuous wind pattern spanning the entire globe, boy wouldn't that be cool.

Or fucking import LNG
#NewZealand has 1.2GW of installed generation from Gas, the new LPG terminal wont be up and running until 2028

UK are installing 1.3GW of new wind power before 2029

The UK will support 28 new onshore wind farms in its latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction 🇬🇧

The projects add 1.3 GW of new #windpower by 2029, taking total CfD-supported onshore wind capacity to 5.3 GW.

- Seymour says it is a levy

#NZpol Dear Christopher Luxon,

A 'levy' is defined as ‘a tax raised by levying’

The example used in the Dictionary app (source OED) is very appropriate:

"we all pay a fossil fuel levy in our electricity bills."

Some governments raise taxes to fund public health and education. Not Luxon. He is literally raising taxes to subsidise fossil fuels. He is putting a levy on our electricity bills to pay for his LNG import terminal.

IT WAS THE ADDITIONAL ONE BILLION THAT MADE THEM STOP THE DUNEDIN HOSPITAL AND IREX.

No money for hospitals or the ferries, money to prop up fossil fuels.
Given all the really important shit that this government says we "can't afford" it's amazing what they manage to find money for.
