Imagine watching Sinatra, son of Dolly & Antonini born in Genoa & Sicily, respectively, and Martin, son of Gaetano & Angela, born in Montesilvano, Italy & Ohio respectively, (Angela to parents born in Monasterolo, Italy), and crusading against the value of children of immigrants to the U.S.

FlexiBin is such a stupid product

It's a giant plastic bag you can buy from Bunnings etc to use like a rubbish skip. But after you've bought the bag you still have to pay for collection (at an undisclosed-at-purchase-time cost)

It's a single use product, collection should be rolled into the cost!

This is a great example not just of Nazism being normalized, but of being so removed from the consequences of Nazism that it becomes just a thought exercise. I mean, hey, 20 years ago this avowed antisemite couldn’t even have been part of polite society and look at him now!
Joe Rogan and Shane Gillis on Nick Fuentes running for president one day.

Rogan: “He could probably win in a few years. Listen, he couldn’t have existed before, right? Ten, twenty years ago, couldn’t have existed. Now, super popular. What’s twenty years from now look like?”

As an Aucklander who's visited Wellington a bunch, traveling from airport to city every time, obviously...

The traffic just isn't that bad! Like it's a little annoying sometimes, but honestly it's a short drive that doesn't take that long even when it's congested.

Technically we could be eating trifle at any time of year... I think we should improve the status quo.

Trifle year round!

After I did this little experiment (in relation to the AI fake Christmas book list thing) I spent a little while trying to get Gemini to admit it's mistakes on those. It WOULD NOT DO IT.

This was surprising because LLM chat bots usually back down quickly. Nope, it refused. Just lies upon lies.
Out of curiousity, I prompted Google Gemini with the Australian version of the list, and asked it to localise the piece for New Zealand (I didn't bother to ask that it change the organisation name).

It did better overall, I think. Did some fakes, including from the now-indexed WLF list.

This is a double whammy story... Multiple entirely fake entries on this list published in multiple papers.

But the list itself is taken whole from a press release.

So it's a warning story about AI slop, but also a warning about unquestioning reproduction of press releases.
#4 sounds like a lovely book but I didn't write it. Have had whānau up and down the country send me clippings lol
Whoever put together this list that has been circulated to regional papers, didn't fact check.

We were browsing Netflix and saw there were some live NFL games.

It's a very weird sport. Feels more like a board game than a team sport.

I saw this and couldn't help myself, I went to have a look. I didn't get that far in, tbh (the ads on Truth are SO prolific and so bad).

But I did see the President sharing a screenshot of a parody account of his own press secretary spouting racist bullshit.

This year we used paper plates and plastic cutlery, and most drinks were cans and bottles.

So nice not to have a huge load of dishes to deal with now.

Seems like he's probably not going to give up the president thing in favour of a career as a full-time MC.
JUST IN: CBS’s Kennedy Center Honors just hit an all-time ratings low. Preliminary Nielsen data shows only ~2.65M viewers tuned in to the Trump-hosted show, down from 4.1M in 2024. A stunning 35% year-over-year collapse.

Awful, and entirely unsurprising
If you still for some reason post your art on Twitter - they added "edit" button to every image, which opens AI prompt letting anybody to modify it and post as their own.

@mcuban.bsky.social You seem really focused on the issues of public and single payer healthcare... Let's make a documentary where you travel the world to see what works elsewhere, and take that knowledge back to US experts to talk through?

We have a big problem: the media and punditry are overrun by people who are driven almost entirely by a desire to appear "openminded" and "contrarian." In order to burnish that image, they seek out conservative takes to endorse, carefully choosing ones that don't seem too MAGA (and thus gauche).
This is genuinely horrifying. Fact-free far-right agitprop given accolades by credible media across the political spectrum.

I suspect this country is comparable, I know so many people who have practically no disposable income after rent, utilities, and basic groceries
Around 70% of the U.S. economy depends on consumer spending. As wealth concentrates in the richest 10%, the rest of America can’t afford to buy enough to keep the economy running.

This is a huge problem — and even America’s most powerful CEOs are starting to sound the alarm.

This is fair, but also the general consensus among commentators was that Trump wouldn't (or couldn't) do half of what he suggested. That it was bluster for the base and hyperbolic wish casting.

They imagined 2020 redux, where he'd be handled by real political operators and restrained by officials.
What's endlessly frustrating is that Trump has done nothing in the last year that he didn't openly campaign on doing if he regained the presidency, but checked-out voters didn't bother paying attention, and lots of politically informed voters refused to believe him. So much rotten ignorance.
