The level of fuckery in the Police/McSkimming story is really shocking (maybe it shouldn't be, but still... holy shit).

Annoyingly the settlement only includes titles registered with the US Copyright Office... So no Anthropic bucks for me.
AUTHORS!!
Remember that case where a bunch of authors sued AI for stealing their work? And WON?
Well, the settlement money has been announced. Each WORK that got thefted will be compensated $3k (split 50/50 bw publisher + author). So authors will be compensated $1500 per WORK stolen.

Imagine that negotiation?!
You: A person who would like to be able to stay alive.
Them: A massive corporation that stands as the gateway to the entire country's healthcare system.

Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

This is from an established account that shares followers with me, so I guess this is probably what happens when you fall for the lure? Your account is taken over to spread this further.

"Ultra-processed foods" is an ill-defined category and people should stop using it. Any grouping that puts baby food, wholegrain bread, or granola bar made of four raw grains/nuts and whey protein in the same category as spam and deep-fried Mars bars is nonsensical.

It's so ridiculous... Pretty much every big thinkpiece about Trump's electoral success in the last decade has focused (rightly) on his direct appeals to working Americans who feel left behind.
And then countless follow-ups about how they feel betrayed by his failure on those issues.

Nationally, every single one of Zohran Mamdani's policies has higher "strong support" than "strong opposition." But tell me again how pro-worker policies only work in NYC.

Out of 10s of thousands of competitors, only one trans woman ever qualified. She came last.
Zero medals. Zero.

Trying to understand US meat prices in my own local context is hard sometimes, as it's necessary to do a unit conversion and a currency conversion.
Anyway, this is NZ$39/kg which is somewhere between 50% and 100% more expensive than NZ retailers, depending where you're shopping.

Luxon thinks we need a "mature conversation" about selling state assets... But I don't think he really means that, because a mature conversation would look at the history of failure and the shortsighted focus on profit ahead of public interest.
He wants a conversation where we agree with him.

That the Free Speech Union's conference audience is applauding the suggestion of basically banning non-Christian religions should pretty much put an end to their being taken seriously by media as a voice for principled free speech advocacy.
But it won't

If you'd told me that a speaker at the Free Speech Union conference would call for banning non-Christian public expressions of faith to an applauding crowd, I would have said yes, obviously that is going to happen newsroom.co.nz/2025/11/10/t...

The combo of walled-garden social media and AI replacing search means the death of the useful/open/free internet. Why would anyone create anything when it will just be summarized by AI and no one will ever see it? When social media deprecates outbound links, how will anyone find original content?

OMG. The site is literally called the Dunning Kruger Times.
With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

I've seen a number of these videos now. They are quite something.
There is a lady on TikTok pretending to have a baby that has gone without formula all night — she is calling churches around the country to ask if they can help.
Some of them are really embarrassing themselves. Especially the mega-churches.
