Scott Caldwell: This housing back-down couldn’t be coming at a worse time for Auckland
OPINION: Inner-city hubs like Kingsland have lost 15% of locals aged 15-29 in five years.

Memory is a fragile thing in this moment, so it is important to keep in mind that Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his caucus against ICE funding earlier this week.

Months into this, not one person in ICE or CBP or DHS or the White House has suffered a single visible consequence. Not fired, asked to resign, impeached, reprimanded, not even suspended, let alone arrested. Things will continue to deteriorate until that changes. That's it, that's the whole story.

Worse than Kent State, really than any episode I can think of probably dating back to Reconstruc & earlier b/c

1. continuing, not 1 off.
2. organized, not individual ofcrs losing it
3. literally at hand of federal government, which is
4. immediately lying & circling the wagons to prevent inves.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz: "I don't know. You kill a man and then you just leave? You're law enforcement and you just leave? Is there a single case in American history where you just, like, walk away and say, 'I guess that just happened and we're not going to clean up our mess'?"

“The notion that ever more garish clothing will compensate for distracted driving is a convenient fiction. No amount of fluorescent fabric can counteract the motorist scrolling on their phone or the driver travelling too fast.”

Violence at home and abroad.
Based on all the information from OSINT and other sources, I believe Sunday night is the most likely beginning of the operational window for possible U.S. actions against Iran.

To my pals in the US, you know I love you but you also know a boycott would do more to help change direction at this point than pretending it's safe.

Last year, I purposefully routed my trip to England to avoid the USA.
Paid more for my flight to do so.
But I know it's not safe there for queer folk like me.

It certainly isn't safe for people that aren't white.

So when do we stop sending athletes there?

Imagine how bad that would be if we’d be hooked on LNG and imported that inflation too.

Always worth a re-post when we get an update.
Amazes me that Govt get away with saying they have done anything notable to 'tame inflation'. Our peak was relatively low (we weren't exposed to global gas prices 😌), and, over the last year, Govt decisions have demonstrably increased CPI.

Last election, climate change was barely mentioned. We cannot let the climate emergency fall by the wayside again. We know what the issues are and we have solutions for adaptation. We also need an education program to help folks recognise the warning signs #nzpol

We had funding for these types of actions. It was the Climate Emergency Response Fund but the government closed that in 2024 so now there is no dedicated funding to prepare for future floods, slips, fires and other climate disasters www.treasury.govt.nz/information-...

The Climate Emergency Response Fund is now closed. At Budget 2024, the Government confirmed its decision to close the Climate Emergency Response Fund (CERF).

Slips have always been part of the landscape of Aotearoa but with deforestation and increased heavy rain events under climate change, they are going to become more frequent and widespread. Sadly we have learnt nothing from the Auckland Anniversary floods and Cyclone Gabrielle just 3 years ago. 🧵
