bike and ped advocate. mechanical engineer, getting my PhD at NCSU.
my old coworker took me out to lunch in his Tesla, and on the way back he showed off the acceleration after a red light, around a bend in the road.

I was too embarrassed to tell him that that was where I crossed on foot, and his maneuver was a common one that I faced and feared, every day

The US should follow suit. 0-60 is a meaningless, dangerous metric that should be abolished.

I wrote this a year ago.
How fast can a car go from 0 to 60? It really doesn't matter
The auto industry has pushed the 0 to 60 mph metric for decades. But cars—especially EVs—are so fast that comparing the decimals is pointless and dangerous.

Dad tawny was scratching a LOT before he finally flew down to the grass to let the sun do a bit of delousing for him. In the third pic, he’s shuffled a bit further out into the sun.

We’ve seen them do this few times now. Apparently, maggies do it too.

Apparently the lesson Brendan Carr learned from the Kimmel debacle is that he didn't actually have any consequences for abusing his power to violate the 1st Amendment, so he's just going to keep at it.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Yawns are weird. You're tired? Why don't you open your mouth really big about it? What's that? You're not tired, but you saw someone else open their mouth big? Well, guess what.

I feel like what is bipartisan is car brain. From the feds to the states to the cities. It's going to take work to get in there and wrench control away from the "car-centered everything" paradigm.
After the law went into effect, we find that it produced a major boost in spending on streets/highway-related investment, adjusted for inflation.

But spending on non-streets/highway investment, like rail transit, flatlined. States & cities *reduced* spending on rail transit after the law passed.
