Safe streets, active transpo, dense urbanism, everybody in, nobody out. I like making stuff. Active member of Traffic Violence Rapid Response as well as Seamless Bay Area.
Whoever did this is fucked up, of course, but it doesn’t hurt to say that shooting foot soldiers is not the same as making a clear political statement.
This shooting of National Guardsmen the day before Thanksgiving is horrific. These are servicemembers who deserve our utmost respect.

Both sides of the Mississippi
it’s so weird to me how so many liberals are more willing to blame mental illness for trump’s actions than the man being the biggest piece of shit human being on this side of the mississippi

Emerging trend on Oakland NextDoor of drivers posting handheld video filmed while driving past the upgraded, delineated bike lane on 55th Avenue next to Mills Northeastern, complaining that they can’t use the bike lane to overtake congestion any longer and then getting flamed in the comments.

Relegalize SROs. Relegalize single stair buildings to enable larger, family sized homes. Legalize townhomes everywhere. Legalize ADUs everywhere. Legalize apartment buildings in more places. Yes to all the homes.

I had been considering a subscription, but…
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

Seeing data like this convinces me that the car industry literally has been trying to block bikes from roads since the beginning, because bikes end up being the most useful transportation mode in cities, and over time people will recognize there is no reason to drive at all.
The latest evaluation of bike lane projects in Boston continues to show that if you build bike infrastructure, people will use it.

Apparently, The Onion has made another media acquisition
President Trump and some congressional Republicans are mulling a bill on GOP health care goals.

Some argue that now is the time while Republicans still control the House, Senate and the White House.
Some Republicans want to try to pass another mega-bill on health care
Republicans are trying to find a policy Democrats will get behind. If that doesn’t work, they may go it alone.

Reducing lanes never causes carmageddon. Just like adding lanes never reduces congestion. Car traffic expands & contracts according to available space.

This is rich. Connie Chan says she “built real affordable housing, not the Sacramento version that destroys our neighborhoods.”

She points to new affordable housing on Geary: housing that she didn’t build but that *was* built using “Sacramento version” housing laws & $52M in state funds. 🧵

Americans all drive incredibly expensive cars and live in massive houses and very often misjudge their personal financial wellbeing as a result, and that is directly because of policies that made lower cost housing and proximity to transit literally illegal

I hate to even weigh in on this, but citing the fact that the proportion of people living in suburbs has grown faster than the proportion of people living in core cities as evidence that “people prefer suburban living” is…well, I barely know where to start

I first saw this dark and arresting film as an undergrad. Chris Marker’s brilliant La Jetee uses almost entirely still B/W photos to tell an allegorical tale of the cruelty of inevitability. How can @99pi.org tell the world about this unique film?

Or a car!
I’m a melt the guns guy but if we won’t do that then we should all at least agree that if you keep your gun in your car you have proven that you do not deserve the privilege owning a gun

As Malcolm said, “Quit thinking you’re in the North, not the South! As long as you’re south of the Canadian border, you’re south.”
No. I spent plenty of time in the south and the last time I saw a Confederate flag out in the open it was hanging in a window in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Racists in the northeast are not better or less racist.

Really glad Caltrans is out there spending money on widening highways rather than actually fixing the ones we have.

It's critically important that communities make distinctions between e-bikes and e-motos when implementing regulations, and that starts with a solid definition of an e-moto. Lumping both into the same regulatory bucket will hinder the expansion of e-bikes as a powerful mobility tool.

This fascist is a lying sack of shit. He just tripled the number of undocumented people. And the housing crisis is caused by NIMBY, segregationist homeowners like this whiny little jackass. Want to solve housing? Build more f’ing housing! Instead of blocking it for self-enrichment. Prick.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."
