I’m setting up a newsletter on @buttondown.com. I would like to do more long form writing and I don’t have the capacity for pitching. There are gonna be some essays about bad management and about writing and about my load bearing grudges. It’s called love, the nailbiter. buttondown.com/loather

This newsletter is sometimes about work, and sometimes about libraries, and also sometimes about writing, and also sometimes about music, and there is sometimes politics yelling. Love, the nailbiter...

The latest move by Sticker Mule's owner. Please don't give these people your money (or honestly send them your artwork, you never know).

I understand why people want to hate on Newsom as a potential 2028 nominee but I can’t get too worked up over him because no way he becomes the nominee. Forget that most Americans think he is a reptilian (correct), the democratic party itself hates his guts, too.

I honestly didn’t realize what it was at first (after the Butler incident my thought was this would be a similar video of something survivable) and that was a mistake. It was instantly pretty clear it was not like Butler.
maybe it wasn't such a good idea for everyone in the country to watch video of a guy getting shot to death fifteen to twenty times
People still talk about him. Granted its while saying "got kirked" when someone snipes them in Fortnite.

This seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way.

Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.

Related: the only people who can afford to hang out in front of the abortion clinic all day, every day are the forced-birthers who are being paid to harass the patients.

The volunteer escorts can only afford to cover shifts once a week for a couple of hours.
ICE keeps saying the people protesting it are being paid without any evidence, but we have receipts showing that the people *defending* ICE are absolutely being paid.

And yet we only hear lies about the former on cable news.
relevant to the debate over whether we should keep funding DHS without reforms and accountability for how out of control their spending is

I’m just the child of an adoptee. But I am so fucking heated from the CA senate health committee hearing where they prioritized completely hypothetical birth moms over the needs and wants of the adoptees and REAL birth moms in front of them. Among them a literal 80 year old man. What the fuuuuck

this kind of anonymity is, as a practical matter, completely gone.

Better to let #adoptees know their parentage via their own records than to force them to find out via the privacy-obliterating expedient of public, online DNA databases.
The chair said she’s queer in a same-sex relationship. She wants to adopt some day and can’t recommend the bill because she believes there are relinquishing parents who won’t want to be known to their children.

Mike Johnson compellingly making the case for abolishing ICE ...
Mike Johnson: "ICE is doing what ICE is designed to do"
Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”

now is the time of will stancil
Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"

Like... as an adoptee from California I'm not ALLOWED to see my original birth certificate. The state has decided I can never know who birthed me.

If you're not adopted you have no idea how unmoored that makes a person feel.
Frustrating to see #adoption myths regurgitated.

My original birth certificate is locked away in some dingy file cabinet somewhere, and I will never be able to see it unless elected officials in my state change the laws.

And yes. You read that right. I have a falsified birth certificate.
🥚
i need everyone to understand that birthparents CANNOT unseal their children’s birth records. At most they can elect not to veto their child’s access—in states with such a veto in place.

In California, only a court order can unseal an adoptee’s birth record. And that is basically never granted. 🥚

IMO, pre-cell phones there was no other way to get the constant input a growing brain required except to read, write/journal/draw, and refresh AOL email 10x a day. Reading pictures? Buddy that’s a lifehack
why did so many millennials read so many newspaper comics? easily 60 percent of my reading diet in elementary/middle school was collected editions of calvin and hobbes, farside, dilbert, peanuts, doonesbury (!), foxtrot (?!?) and i know im not alone. historically unique phenomenon
rather than talk about Scott Adams I want to talk about something weirder (me). Who else was really into Dilbert when you were 12. Who else was like, boy, I can't wait to work a cubicle job
