#tdih 1968 When asked at White House luncheon why young people are angry, Eartha Kitt said, because "You send best of this country off to be shot and maimed."

In retaliation for her honesty, gov't ruined her U.S. career for 10 years & CIA tracked her.

i got the way i am today in no small part because of growing up being told, in effect, “it’s really not important for you to know where and who you came from. Actually, it’s SO really-not-important that we made a law that requires us to hide it from you forever” 🥚

People think they know what’s best for adopted people. I might talk about the interest i might have in my original kinship relations being recognized by law and someone will say “you owe allegiance to your adoptive family, since clearly those other people didn’t want you”

all the objections people raise against the idea of making adoptions annullable at the age of majority pertain to how that would affect the interests of people *other* than the adoptee.

If adoption were truly intended as child welfare, it would be accountable only to the adoptee’s interests.

New study suggests that metastatic cancer cells may evade the immune system by stealing mitochondria from immune cells and setting up a ‘shield’ that protects them from being killed by immune cells. Wiley little bastards.

Cancer might evade immune defences by stealing mitochondria
Hijacking the energy-producing organelles from immune cells seems to help tumours in mice to infiltrate lymph nodes.

Sorry, forced-birthers, but I am not at all grateful for the CSA I survived as a transracial adoptee in white jesuslandia.

Neither am I grateful for the racism I experienced in the household I was raised in, let alone in the white communities the adoptive parents carted me into.

🥚
the premise of these arguments is that adoptees are or ought to be grateful for having been born. But if we should be grateful for having been born, then so should everyone else. And so if our existence justifies banning abortion, so does anyone’s.
Adoptees are not anyone’s proxies in the fight for the right to abortion.

there is no “adoptee case against abortion” that doesn’t already presuppose antiabortion beliefs.

it's very creepy when people want you to be grateful for being born but also demand that you have zero opinions about what fairnesses and rights you deserve in that life of yours.

The dominant narrative loves to frame relinquishment as a brave sacrifice/gift from birth moms. Spending money on removing children AND incentivizing adoption is insulting as well as injurious.

Adoption is one of the most traumatic decisions a society (and family) can inflict on an infant or young child.

There, fixed it for ya. Imagine what the $50+K people or the state via foster care pay for adoption could do for an under-resourced mom.

Or maybe, hear me out, you could just give support to families so they can keep their kids. 🙄 so many kids are removed or relinquished because moms don’t have the support or resources to parent. Just say you don’t care about poor people.

(The Center Square) - The cost of raising children can be prohibitive for many adults who would otherwise choose to expand their families, especially for those considering the adoption process.
