Actually, kinda! Hospital is not listed. My city of birth is listed and appears to be accurate but idk forreal bc the name and places of birth they listed for my birth parents actually belong to my adoptive parents.

And I still have no idea the exact day I was adopted. Like zero idea.
"Certificate of live birth" sounds so much more.. sterile than birth certificate and i can't really explain why. It's the same words..

So like.. do they just make up the rest of the details too? Time, birthday, hospital, all that? Just creating an entire new identity out of thin air?

I so feel this 🤍
I thought reunion would heal wounds. Removed mystery, but provided new opportunities for heartbreak. Family is blood plus time. With my bio-fam nothing can undo the time lost.

My rel. w/ adoptive mom&bro is preformative. I'm kind (for my own integrity) but too much unaddressed trauma to be real.🥚

Adding to the American Myths of Unity, Equality, Exceptionalism, Manifest Destiny, Individualism, The American Dream, and America’s “free enterprise” system, we can safely add the *Myth of Childbirth-by-Paper*.

this is from a comparatively old source, but as long as we permit the existence of a marketplace in children that exploits the desperation and misery of the unlucky ones among us, its statement about the ordering of societal concern will not stop being true. 🥚

What’s crazy is, that sentiment is not a common one. You would be surprised how many times I’ve been told by non-adoptees that the family who raised me is my only real family and they are all who matter.

Spoiler alert: some adoptive families say that to their adoptees too 😒
That's so crazy to me.. it's like Jason Bourne trying to figure out who he really is..

I think everybody can relate to wanting to learn about where you came from and it has to be so frustrating to hit a roadblock immediately..

I really don't get why most of y'all are so married to adoption as a social good. Like geez. It's amazing how many daggers you start throwing when the word abolish gets thrown around. You'd think I was killing puppies over here!

- Prisons absolutely can & should be abolished.
- Defunding police to fund social & educational programs will do more for crime than any amount of funding to police ever will.
- Until UBI, housing, medical care, & food are guaranteed to ALL parents & pregnant folks, adoption is unethical at best.

“Best interests of the child” has never been neutral.

It’s how the state disguises control as compassion.

Big California Update. An intercountry adoptee has received a pardon from Gov. Newsom, paving the way to remove a deportation order and reclaim green card status. Kudos to @governor.ca.gov for his action, especially in recognizing the impact on adopted people www.gov.ca.gov/2025/11/07/g...

And stop dictating to we adoptees that others have a right to privacy when it comes to adoption. Just step off, Karen, okay. All humans have a right to know where they come from no matter the circumstances. Violating that right is an abuse plain and simple.
An adoptee who receives any morsel of information about their first family is lucky. No one is legally required to tell us we're adopted let alone required to provide us with any type of paperwork. In fact most of us who do know we're adopted can't even get a copy of our original birth certificates.

Like… the only reason I know I was adopted was bc my parents told me in elementary school. And then years later I found one letter that social services had written to them listing off my demographic info, 6 months after I was born. My ONLY proof.
Yep. Nothing. Not even the legal right to know we're adopted. Tired of hearing the same old myths thrown around

Glad you’re speaking on this today. It seems a lot of people think we at least have one piece of paper confirming we were adopted. Nope. Literally nothing.
Unlike your cabbage patch doll, I didn't come with adoption papers. No adoptee does. In fact, all we're given is nothing but a new birth certificate that falsely lists our adopters as our "parents of live birth". You think we're given some sort of adoption file when we're 18?

Think again.🧵

Hey liberals and progressives and all those who claim to support reproductive justice

I'm talking to you!

If most kids in foster care are there due to poverty, and most people who relinquish their kids for adoption do so because of a temporary crisis,

why are you still supporting these systems?!?
Stop trying to "save the children" and support families instead. I guarantee most kids will be alright if we just help families in temporary crisis.

No need to separate families via the family policing system or the adoption industry.

Support families.

seriously, though. #adopted people use the phrase “out of the fog” to refer to an experience that we could also describe as an awakening to the truth.

I’ve already reposted this, but this is maybe my most “woke” opinion. Plus those wretched “baby boxes” are glorified child trafficking and a human rights violation.
abolishing the private #adoption industry and ending the legal practice of plenary adoption—the irreversible rewriting of a child’s legal identity and falsification of their natal kinship relations—does *not* mean abolishing long-term custodial care for a child who needs it. +

As an adoptee, this is just dumb and gross. Instead of fixing the system so children can stay with their biological family, the system exploits the vulnerable for a $25B annual profit scheme.

the right loves #adoption for all the reasons you would guess: an “alternative” to abortion; an alternative to social support for people in crisis; a general disregard for human rights; MONEY; profit-seeking from gross social & material inequality.

the problem is that liberals love adoption too.
Look, we know this man has a deep and abiding interest in trafficking children.

plenary #adoption, and the industry that brokers adoptions, are capitalism’s way of exploiting, rather than addressing, morally inexcusable social inequality and precarity to provide affluent people a marketplace to acquire a coveted source of social wealth: children.
