I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

Duncan, a political newcomer and former prisoner, defeated incumbent Darren Lombard by a wide margin in Saturday's runoff.

This is nauseating: “As the emails stretch through the years, they show how that protected realm vanished into the mists of time, pulled under by the rising forces of the internet and the #MeToo movement.” A “Gone With the Wind” framing for sexual abuse and harassment.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

Unlike your cabbage patch doll, I didn't come with adoption papers. No adoptee does. In fact, all we're given is nothing but a new birth certificate that falsely lists our adopters as our "parents of live birth". You think we're given some sort of adoption file when we're 18?

Think again.🧵

There was a discussion on Threads about siblings growing up not knowing each other due to the actions of parents. Made wonder if things would be different in "reunion" if my BPs hadn't hidden the fact I existed from the kids they raised. Long lost family vs dirty secret guiltily admitted. 🥚

Can anyone name a single thing that Jayson Blair printed that was as materially damaging to society as buddying up to and covering up for a elite society sex trafficker? That the NYT was completely incurious about what else their former reporter might have done for Epstein, well, that's not great!

Damn, I can't believe that Noam Chomsky would willingly associate himself with an utter monster. *Checks notes* Wait, hold on
In 2023, Chomsky told WSJ about his relationship with Epstein: “First response is that it is none of your business. Or anyone’s. Second is that I knew him and we met occasionally.”

My hot adoption take on this is smaller families are less likely to justify giving their kids away. My boomer bio mom was one of 7, my father one of 6. No surprise they figured they wouldn't miss me. 🥚

People acting like women's fertility plummets at age 35 and everyone had babies as teenagers in the past when my bio and adoptive family trees beg to differ. Lots of "geriatric" moms in the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Adoption Is Not a Solution for Abortion
Adoption rates in the U.S. are relatively low and steadily decreasing because of cultural changes, not Roe vs. Wade.
