Scientific research of gender transition has been stuck on "should these people be allowed to transition" for 50 years, so we don't know shit about how transitioning actually works.

heartening thread here. there is real, meaningful work we can do to protect our communities, we can learn how to do it from each other, and we don't have to do it alone.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Thinking about how bsky has the most horrible setting turned on by default that says "i don't want to see any other languages except English" and if no one tells you to put it on "no selection" you straight up won't see posts from people set to different languages on your TL.
And if you feel like it's getting worse, yes, it is. Non US traffic here is minimal. And criticising it, you get "skill issue" or "it's not an echo chamber!"

I’ve had many people comment about my posts feeling like a positive blip in an otherwise chaotic doomscroll but like… that’s not just me being silly. That’s a carefully honed skill I’ve worked on for nearly 30 years, I guess. And since it’s a skill, it’s never too late to start trying.

Yes, but I think my framework about it is different. I feel the dread too, trust me, but I also feel the joy, whimsy, etc, because I’ve unintentionally cultivated it as an unexpectedly durable and sustainable form of resistance.
Is anyone still able to enjoy anything truly & deeply, without a substantial portion of their mind, heart, and soul in the clutches of dark existential dread? The restorative power of being in the moment, feeling joy & wild abandon — is being crushed, and I worry about resonant cumulative damage.
