I've been trying to get my version of the Bechdel Test to catch on called the Ballard Metric. It basically asks if the creator was able to work for free or for slave wages due to an invisible financial safety net and recontextualizes the work. (I'm kinda joking idk)
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"
The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

Max and Chloe's models are still changing a tiny bit sometimes. I'm trying to push how much I can push my style towards something more serious and grounded, without sacrificing the simplicity too much (because I still want to be able to finish the comic)

I'm seeing a lot of posts to call your reps but little on actually how. 5calls.org is a great site where you can put in your zip code and get numbers for your house representative and two senators. You also can get a script if you're like me and stumble over your thoughts.

I'm gonna give my most favorite piece of writing advice instead and it's to treat writing like a painting (if that's the process that works for you). Going from a very rough outline (kind of like a thumbnail drawing) to plotting the story (like a rough pass) to writing the actual words (lineart?)
