let's take a moment to appreciate what this goofy city council mailer is really saying: we can't get transit upgrades, parks, school upgrades etc unless a condo developer is involved.

Love to have an early voting electorate bigger than the population of Denver (h/t @ldpreload.com)
Early voting is complete in New York City! What we know:

735,317 people have voted.

That's more than four times the early total in 2021, and it's 67.5% of the early voting total in 2024.

You couldn't ask for a better endorsement of Ballot Props 2-5 than Sliwa going on an unhinged rant about them. Is Adrienne Adams still sure she wants to hitch her wagon to that sinking ship?
GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa says he opposes City of Yes and ballot props 2-5, which he says will "take away your homes and provide you with lithium ion batteries, which are like mini-Chernobyls"

Fact check: False. They won't do that, but they will make your rent more affordable.

New York City calls itself a refuge for queer and trans Americans, but that promise is at risk if we don't take on the housing crisis head on. Read my op-ed about the need to build more housing to reduce rents, in this case, via the OneLIC project: gaycitynews.com/new-york-rem...
For New York to remain a queer haven, we must build more homes
People move to New York because they believe in certain promises: a place where you’re free to be yourself, to thrive, and to find community. Especially for

Apparently London has both a “Mayor of London” (does normal mayor stuff) and a “Lord Mayor of London” (does civic events in costumes) and like, not to hand it to England, but I think I’ve figured out what we can do with Eric Adams

Just heard Bill Kristol, former chief of staff for Dan Quayle, say he thinks ICE should be defunded and that the entire DHS should probably be disbanded, which puts him to the left of maybe the majority of elected Democrats. Truly wild times we’re living in.

When Trump's attacked our city, I’ve fought back and won.

With Brooklyn families being priced out of our homes & neighborhoods, I know we've got more work to do.

This is my community. I’m in this fight for you.

This is the primary reason I’m a YIMBY and want to see more housing (of all kinds) in California.
We need to begin/continue/intensify formal conversations about enabling relocation within or outside of the United States for individuals and families living in states with governments who officially have a blank check to use government force to oppress them

Churches need to be involved in this work. I hope that bishops are having conversations about this. It is wonderful and indeed essential to announce the support your diocese can offer; at this point, the support than many will need is the ability to leave your diocese.

Tonight, I'll go home and sleep in my bed. I have a lawyer, I'll get due process.

But Edgardo, whose arm was ripped from mine by ICE agents, has none of those things.

That's why I'll keep coming back to court, week after week, to make sure that people's rights are protected.

We need a Democratic Party that fights before we can have a liberalism that builds. If we don’t get one, it’s easy to imagine rightists co-opting “abundance,” like they once co-opted “freedom,” to drag us back to the Lochner era. www.offmessage.net/p/abundance-...

Interesting that I’m not seeing any reports of the “He’s An Asshole But The City Needs An Asshole To Stand Up To Trump” mayoral candidate doing any standing up to Trump re: the unjustified arrest of the sitting Comptroller

"So far as I know he has no lawyer... the other gentleman who I walked out with, whose native language is Yoruba, and who only got a translator in French... I will be fine, but Edgardo is not going to be fine, and the rule of law is not fine, and our constitutional democracy is not fine."
"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

Comptroller Brad Lander was just wrongfully arrested by ICE for standing up for an immigrant also wrongfully detained. This is fascism—plain and simple. Enabled by a spineless Mayor and a lawless President. I’m on my way to immigration court. Release Brad now. Release them all.

The arrest of @nyccomptroller.bsky.social and continued attacks on New Yorkers by ICE are unacceptable and an abuse of power.

Comptroller Lander should be released and ICE should stop undermining public safety in our city by targeting New Yorkers going about their lives.
