Not crazy to say there was a much clearer criminal case against MBS, who ordered the murder of an American newspaper columnist, than there is against Maduro.

Forced labor for people with no conviction at a private enterprise is the trifecta of dystopian red flags.

The response to this feels somewhat akin to the response to Hillbilly Elegy— that certain liberals must read it and praise it so that they can properly and publicly perform humility to atone for their eliteness. This is despite both of these books being written by Ivy Leaguers.

A big story here is that major tech firms really did over-hire during the pandemic, they did waste a lot of money on low productivity personnel, and when firms realized this and cut staff they assumed every institution on earth operated like this too for some reason.
One of the eternal American political cycles: conservatives in a RW media bubble come to believe that the gov't is ridden with fraud & abuse; conservatives then gain actual control over gov't & discover it's incredibly efficiency & effective.
Former DOGE engineer says federal waste and fraud were 'relatively nonexistent'
NPR's Juana Summers talks with Sahil Lavingia, who worked for the Department of Government Efficiency as a software engineer assigned to the Department of Veterans Affairs, about his experience.

One of the most underrated stories over the last 5 years is the Dems who have been corrupted by crypto money (growing every day as crypto pours money into primaries) causing a big split within the Dem caucus
Really terrible timing for Dems to be collaborating with the GOP on a stablecoin bill while Trump and his family are putting out a stablecoin! This is going to hit the floor next week.

Yeah what really needs to happen is university level adaptations: locked down computer labs with monitoring software on the machines there, and you must write and submit your paper on one these, where there is a keystroke record of you typing it up.
I don't disagree, but adaptation comes with costs.

The clearest adaptation is "move to in-class assessments only."

But I teach scientific thinking and stats. I don't *want* to test how much students of that can do in 75-150 minutes. That's not what they'll be asked to do in the real world.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

Current status: we're smuggling eggs in from Mexico now.

So let's talk about WHY Mexico's egg industry has been stable- while US egg prices are through the roof!

1. Mexico puts people in jail for price-fixing.

2. Mexico lets farmers vaccinate their chickens against bird flu.

It’s so goddamn easy to get people to like you for doing good things. When I was a teenager I spent tons and tons of time volunteering at the food pantry, visiting prisoners in jail, doing work for any civic org, and I did in fact get awards for it!

Just go volunteer at a food pantry!
