I think collectively, we at least partially wanted the child at the Super Bowl to be Liam because the little boy on stage looked happy and healthy and our hearts want so badly to think these children can somehow magically recover from the evils our government is doing.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

β€œHe can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, β€˜Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

It should be pointed out more frequently that they fought and died for this country also.

It remains under-discussed in the media how much the current administration is spitting on this history. (same for our πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί allies, same for refugees from the Vietnam War).
β€œThey don’t speak our language.” Well, nobody worried about that when Puerto Rico’s 65th Infantry deployed to Korea in 1950. By war’s end, six men had been awarded DSC’s, 130 were awarded SS’s, and 3,800 were awarded PH’s. They remain one of the most heavily decorated NG units.

The funny thing about that show? Not a word of it was in English, but it was one of the more patriotic halftime shows I’ve seen.

Puerto Rico hasn't had reliable power in a decade.

The grid sends occasional surges through the wires that fry appliances.

Electricity rates are among the highest in the entire U.S.

Heat waves are getting intense in the summer, and outages mean A/C is no guarantee for an aging population.

Pretty clear to me that all the good incentives that come from being able to make a billion dollars are wiped out in a few years as billionaires become people who mainly want to keep their billion dollars.
It's now irresponsible to go on believing that billionaires just want to make honest money from productive innovation (leave aside get-rich-by-enshittification). In good times, maybe this makes sense. In hard times, we cannot trust billionaires not to burn the polis down to preserve their station.

This, from @jamellebouie.net is exactly right. And I think so many folks have refused to see or admit what Trump is because admitting implicates them, or their families, so denial is easier.

"Epstein class" is terrific not simply because several of them are directly tied to Epstein's crimes, but because it strikes at the corruption, immorality and impunity of that entire circle.
Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate.

Eliminating ICE is the modern equivalent of opposing the Iraq War, and right now there are two types of Democrats: those who can see where the ball is moving and go to it, and those who will be swept away because they refused to do so.
