I was incarcerated in a psych ward for two months, one of the most miserable experiences of my life that I hated every single hellish second of. The psych ward is a dungeon designed to crush the human spirt. We commit to joy while inside despite that. You can't survive hard times without making joy.

You'll still need to eat, and shit, and you'll still get sick and be tired and get horny and get periods and need to take a shower and have all the other little worries that life is made from. No scenario, no matter how apocalyptic, will make life *simple*.

The voting booth is probably the last bastion of secrecy and privacy in this country. Folks will say anything to a pollster to appear to be on the right side of history, but in the secrecy of the voting booth they do exactly what they want to do. Trust polls at our own peril.

I trust the recommendation of @marisakabas.bsky.social enough to instafollow on her say so.
If you want to understand how far-reaching the corporate rot in media is, read this gutting piece about the fall of Oregon Public Broadcasting.

(And follow @ryanjhaas.bsky.social and @leahsottile.bsky.social’s new publication @thewesternedge.bsky.social which will be amazing bc they’re amazing)
This is easily the hardest thing I've ever had to write.

I take full responsibility for my reckless actions and hope this time I’ve learned my lesson

As a literature educator, for me, poetry begins and ends with Audre Lorde. Every student I have has read “Poetry is not a Luxury.” “Litany for Survival” is the poem that reminds us Who and Whose we are, because we were never meant to survive.

This is sickening. For comparison, this is more than the Department of Energy spent for all solar power and wind power R&D for the whole country.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

I have been watching this happen to my own bright, spirited, incredible 14 yo daughter at the exact moment mom no longer knows anything anyways and it’s crushing me
The Heritage Foundation has released a 250-year roadmap to “save America.”

The document is a how-to guide for subjugating girls & young women: a detailed plan to push them out of college, funnel them into early marriage and motherhood, and then trap them there.

I keep trying to solve this problem with filters and/or new email addresses while being selective about who gets that email address and/or “hidemyemail” features and just none of it works or worse they break the ability of the emails I want to get thru to me.

I end up not checking at all for days
I'm testing/tracking something this week: How turning my back on my email for an hour or two (e.g., because I am teaching!) utterly destroys any progress I might have made.

Monday, 10:00am: 297 unread emails in my inbox (107 of which have arrived in the last week).

404 Media just had an ad during the #SuperBowl! We Googled "smallest TV markets in the United States" and bought an ad for $2,550 that only ran in Ottumwa, Iowa, population 25,000. That still counts

Had this for 12 years and same. Police would knock and ask if I had footage. We just left the cameras up from the previous owner, but they weren't connected to anything 😆
you know what's cheaper and safer than a ring camera? a fake camera. I've had one since my last porch theft three years ago and it even fooled the eye of a cop trying to get me to snitch on my neighbors. you can't subpoena a recording that doesnt exist.

I have incarcerated comrades & loved ones who are enduring the daily torture of US prisons. They also continue to make art. They often don't have the proper supplies and yet they make it knowing that it will never make it out to anyone else. But they continue to make art nonetheless. Keep making art

Cops were frequently getting caught planting drugs in 2017 because body cameras were new and many of them didn't understand how the technology worked.

When cops hit "record" it saved the 30 seconds from *before* they hit the button. Eventually, they figured it out.
