I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

I think it’s important to remember that the shooting of Philando Castile happened in a Minneapolis suburb in 2016.

It’s so telling when people think Black and Brown people saying “this is what has been happening to us” is meant to make them care *less* about the victim and not a wakeup call that they should have cared *more* when it was happening to other people

Yes, Browning and Arendt illustrate these dynamics in European contexts. But Césaire told us in "Discourse on Colonialism" that slavery, colonialism, and imperialism led to indifference, surveillance, control, and violence. This is actually how the US system was created; it is working as intended.

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

As Homeland Security’s siege on Minneapolis enters its third week, locals are volunteering for patrol shifts, protesting in the streets, and keeping one another up to date in group texts.

Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.

Exactly this! People are observing and warning. Not protesting, for the most part. There have been protests, there will probably be more protests. But a lot of what is getting called protesting is actually observing or mutual aid.
National media: Please stop describing what’s happening in Minneapolis as “protests.” There has been a modest, sustained protest outside the Whipple federal building, about 10 miles from downtown, but... 1/3

ICE raids are not the first time this was made explicit. I think people downplay how much Jim Crow was not just about controlling Black people but it was also about controlling white people. If you thought racism was dumb and acted that way you could end up with a bomb in your home
Just keep coming back to the fact that keeping people in a constant state of terror is a form of mass disablement and essential to the eugenic project that is the United States.

The targeting of immersion schools points changing racial logic. Under neoliberal multiculturalism the teaching of racialized languages was permissible if done in ways that benefited white people. Under neofascism the very idea of racialized languages being taught in school is being criminalized.
Can double confirm. ICE vehicles were circling the Chinese immersion school in our neighborhood within the past hour.
Can confirm. My brother's boss had to leave a meeting because they're terrorizing her kid's daycare. This is just what passes for normal now in the cities.
