I repost stuff about trans issues that makes me mad, and sometimes other things. Nothing of value exists here.

None of these Republicans and most of these Democrats are not all of a sudden “seeing the light on ICE.” They simply understand the worm turning on public opinion and saving face. They will ALL go back to voting for minority brutalization as soon as they can. You can’t keep falling for this.

this is a really interesting point and i've been thinking along similar lines. the reaction to renee's murder was explosive, but the reaction to alex's murder feels like more of a turning point.
as a lesbian activist & proud race traitor, I'll say it: Alex Pretti was the hero we needed to lay his life down for freedom, because the people who weren't already aware of the stakes didn't see themselves in Renee Macklin Good (ask me how I know)

Transphobia really does seem to act like a mind virus in this way.
It's remarkable how people like him and Rowling who jumped off the TERF deep end for bullshit but at least left-coded reasons are just American Republicans now.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now
Our government is murdering the citizens of this country. They are doing it without any checks on their violence

Esther Ghey is facilitating the rewriting of history. The circumstances of Brianna’s death are being rewritten to obscure the fact that she was murdered for being trans. It is mentioned not once in this article.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

Reminder that most abuse and systemic harm is perpetrated under the veil of "we just need to be above emotions and do what needs to logically be done" 💯

sometimes, emotions are used to dismiss criticism that comes not from a breakdown, but a moral stance that is rooted in emotions.
I've ranted about this before but I actually *hate* the (disturbingly common!) idea that we should take emotions out of decisionmaking.

You feel your emotions for a reason, they are as relevant to making decisions as every other factor and denial of them is a refusal of your humanity.

Look, I believe in casts, but if a parent has strongly-held anti-cast beliefs, they should be allowed to let their kid’s broken arm grow back all floppy and fucked up, even to the point of lifelong, debilitating pain. And that’s not child abuse because a kid’s bones are their parents’ property

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

so you absolutely should ditch “moron” but something erin & link said 3 years ago made me try an experiment i’ve continued to today of cutting all “your intelligence is subhuman” insults out of my vocabulary.

which makes you notice them.

and let me tell you, it’s like 25% of american discourse.
I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

not even suggesting everyone should try the same experiment (though moron, imbecile, idiot, cretin, & all the others tied to eugenics, forced sterilization of black people, & **surprise** past waves of deportations should get chucked with the R word); just saying many folks lean into that shit HARD.

What all this self-pitying sludge about ICE agents feeling depressed and scared is forcing into our collective forebrain is the knowledge that our culture has placed a premium not just on creating classes of men who kill and torture at will, but on forcing the rest of us to love them at gunpoint.
