A chapter in Hegseth’s book is literally titled “More Lethality, Less Lawyers.”

It’s almost as if there were signs!

sorta coming around to the view that the social danger of genAI images is less that they'll make people believe fabricated things are real and more that they'll make people believe real things are fabricated

Well done Harmeet Dhillon lol
Whoa: A federal court just barred Texas from using its new congressional map, drawn by the GOP to target Dems.

"Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map."

Court says the old map must be used in 2026. Appeals are certain. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Why on earth did Cuomo grow that hideous mustache
Dershowitz: The predecessor on your show described Epstein as a convicted pedophile. He pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. That’s not a pedophile.

So the issue here, which is so obvious Kaine can't have missed it, is that if we never actually filibuster anything for fear of its being nuked it's totally useless.
Heaven forbid the Republicans get rid of the filibuster…

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Honestly I sort of think you shouldn't even be mean to the senators themselves unless you think you're going to get them to change their behavior. Bad for the soul if nothing else
it is never okay to be an asshole to an intern. period.

i do not give a shit whether it is the puppy mill division of Hailburton: if you have literally no discretion to change anything and are making sub-market wages for the opportunity to be screamed at, you do not get screamed at.
the intern is learning to be a yes man and needs to know there are real people outside of their political bubble

I am personally disgusted by this and would like to be on record that if I were presented with this set of facts, I would absolutely vote to convict per the judge's instructions.

The law is the law, and I have as little right to ignore that as a hypothetical prosecutor has reason to strike me.
straight-up jury nullification. this guy did it, confessed to it, and the jury instructions explicitly said that if he did it intentionally, it was assault.

The 2028 Dem downballot field is going to be populated by 30-something DSA members and 40-something "accountants" with thousand yard stares whose opponents' search history and private communications keep mysteriously getting leaked online.

one of the things I have come to believe is that the failure state of capitalism is not exactly the material phenomenon Marx describes so much as a kind of nihilism that comes from having enough money to buy anything you are legally permitted to purchase
the american financial elite, all at once, had abandoned capitalism in an attempt to purchase the power of the state.

I don’t understand what these guys thought should have happened in 2012. Should the incumbent democratic president have just conceded the race to reward republicans for nominating Romney? All Obama really did was exploit obvious vulnerabilities and exaggerate a bit - normal politics.
The media smeared Mitt Romney as Hitler. Then Republicans thought, well we might as well run Hitler.

John Bel Edwards was the Democratic governor of Louisiana from 2016 until 2024 as a pro-life Democrat. But I think this is instructive – he *barely* squeaked it out as a popular incumbent against a not particularly strong R. What are we supposed to do?
this is what really gets me

we used to have a lot of pro-life democrats! they were obliterated in the tea party wave and subsequent elections and we have yet to see a prominent example of someone winning back one of those red/purple seats on that platform

there’s just no real evidence it works
the pro-life comments from klein really are galling because despite his constant hectoring about persuasion, klein doesn't make any attempt to explain why he thinks pro-life democrats can win back red/purple seats. he presents it as a given without making the case.
