that they didn't realize that Trump taking over would make their positions even more toxic among those they'd taken for granted is just mind-boggling arrogance

normie Democrats could support modern Israel in the abstract, but pro-Israel Dems gambled on them not objecting to being supporters of the carnage in Gaza and being fine with silencing critics of Israel increasingly authoritarian ways

that was a very bad bet.
I know I've said it a million times now but between Mamdani and Schumer, the median Democratic voter is far closer to the former than the latter on Palestine today. The pro-Israel bloc makes a mistake, on a fundamental level, by raising the salience of the issue.

RFK Jr. ordered the CDC to terminate their flu vaccination ad campaign immediately after taking office.

Just in case anyone was curious about his silence in the face of what is emerging as an unusually severe flu season and why he’s not out encouraging vaccines.

I just saw a video talking about the Tesla door safety problem and the number of comments that are like, "well you should read the manual" are...shocking.

No, cars should be intuitively safe. Passengers are not reading the manual. Are you doing a safety briefing every time you give someone a ride?

This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

There are a lot of things wrong with this post, but from a librarians perspective let me just very plainly state that library late fees are a tax on the poor people and children who use libraries and a barrier to entry for many more who avoid libraries because of economic anxiety over late fees.
The Arlington library is quite woke in terms of the children’s books they choose to highlight, but imo the place where they’ve really gone off the rails is they’ve gotten rid of fines.

there really is no natural law that dictates that Elon Musk can never be arrested or meaningfully punished
Yeah, arresting the guy who built the massive industrial scale CSAM production machine seems like something we have laws for and could do at any time we choose to.

To be clear the 'let's do a anti-Somali pogrom!' push would be garbage racism even if they did have an actual new instance of some sort of fraud (of the sort that seems to happen and get caught from time to time in other states and communities).

But there's, like, not even that?

So trying to understand this narrative about supposed daycare fraud in Minnesota - am I right that no one seems to have uncovered any fresh instance of fraud?

All I can find is a 2022 case which has already resulted in convictions, where the ringleader wasn't Somali.
