Imagine having a popular and well liked mayor.
Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies.

Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York.

Riding the bus Sunday morning to get to work, and I just want to have words with the people in HRM who think Sunday/Holiday busses are somehow an extravagant luxury

Or are they planning to scale it back, but think this will make the fare increase more palatable?

Halifax i dream of:
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

I have so many ideas and vision to actually put Halifax on the map. With myself as thy supreme leader, Halifax will become a true world-class-city before Toronto does.

woke: upzoning day
valentine's day isn't just for couples, it's also a day to celebrate love. for instance, i would love it if housing prices came down.

Walked by a cute townhouse in Montreal that I thought might be close to our price range and it was a nice reminder that two good incomes no longer matter without the bank of mom & dad.

If you want to kill somebody just run them over with your truck. You'll get away freely.
Not a single mention of whether the plow truck had a working backup beeper.

Not a mention of when the driver last slept

Not a mention of any excess speed in reverse

Apparently Truro Police thinks it's ok if this happens again - nothing needs to change

Is a 200lb art bike the easiest thing to ride up and down a mountain? No.

Is it worth it? Definitely!

This is one insane thing I first noticed in North America. As a kid growing up in Seoul, I started riding transit since I was 5 and it continued throughout my school years. Only private school kids get to ride school buses bc their parents are rich, but us common plebs rode transit.
They say that school drop-off accounts for 25% of morning traffic.

Every time I bike my kid to preschool on a city schools holiday, it becomes clear that 100% of the stressed out, inconsiderate, texting drivers we encounter on a daily basis our fellow parents.

Andy Fillmore won the election by posting ads on all social media, especially Facebook.
“If you want council to consider your perspective you have to show up in person in the correct four hour time slot. We can’t listen to emailed feedback, but we will listen to whatever Facebook pops to the top of our feed!”

How about we acknowledge this is a shitty way to make decisions?
Yes, but also a lot of city/provincial thinking around transportation is basically "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"

"Cars stuck in traffic? Just need to make it easier to drive" in a loop forever.

The end result is that we are broke and stuck in traffic.

If you haven't tried high rides, today is a great day to try. What a chill and philosophical time you might have.
4:20 is a great day to smoke some weed. Sorry I mean ride a bike. This year 4:20 is a great day to ride a bike.

To think of how Toronto took so long to build a new transit line after 2002, Halifax may have reached the general consensus on "accelerating" the existing BRT plan after 2200.
Problem: We have too many cars in town.

Solution: How can we fit more cars in town?

I feel like this is very much the conversation around here for the past year.

Idk why taxing the rich is so hard when they're only 1% of the population. And why do weird nerds and poor defend the rich? It makes no sense.
Holy moly: Seattle’s millionaire tax, passed last year, is expected to bring in $115 million in its 1st year, way more than the $50 million anticipated.

The funds will go to the city’s new social housing developer publicola.com/2026/02/11/t...

(Is NY Gov Hochul paying attention?)
Seattle’s millionaire tax is a huge success. Here is how grassroots groups beat big money and are now raising tons of money for mixed income, rent stabilized housing. (We call it “social housing.”)

Maybe you all knew this, but TIL you can buy bike-specific, and indeed, e-bike-specific insurance.

Here's a brief guide to that kind of insurance from a neat 'e-bike library' that lets you borrow an e-bike to try it out for a week:

We also seriously need to promote working from home. I go days without driving because I work from home.

Know what? We can find cost savings in ditching middle managers whose job it is to make sure workers have their butts in seats.
For HRM, we need to reduce emissions and adapt via HaliFACT which relies on implementing the IMP.

This means a significant modal shift away from driving for every trip to riding for more trips 🚍⛴️🚲🛴.
