I’ve written four. The one most meaningful to me is GOAT CASTLE: A TRUE STORY OF MURDER, RACE, AND THE GOTHIC SOUTH. 🗃️
TELL BLUESKY MORE ABOUT YOUR BOOK PLEASE!
Me too. (It doesn't help that my book goes into the 1950s drought and why so few noticed it.)

To me, it was extremely bad that I cast my vote in an election for the winning presidential candidate and the crook who lost raised an army of goons to try to prevent that election result from taking effect
Basically it seems like the people flinching away from the Insurrection Clause are the ones who feel like institutionally their own power, status, or influence doesn't depend on living in a working democracy

If the constitution can't stop the president from overthrowing the constitution, I'd just as soon have that fact officially entered into the record rather than concede it while letting everyone pretend it isn't true
Really? Cause there's zero reason to think it's going to be effective at stopping Trump. What do you think you're accomplishing with it exactly?

GOP candidates must negotiate a thicket of tricky gotcha questions like "what was the cause of the civil war?" but also "who won the 2020 Presidential election" and "do you denounce the teachings of Hitler?"

I’m not a 100 percent defund the police guy. but absolutely beyond question that diverting half ish of bloated police budgets would pay massive social dividends
Jobs + cognitive behavioral therapy + social supports fights crime. Reduces shooting and homicide arrests with a benefit-cost ratio between 3.8 and 18.8 to 1.

the NYPD budget is larger than Chile’s national defense budget
Police department budgets are one of those areas in which, if you tell people facts, they immediately reject them as untrue. Compared to 2022, NYPD spent $151 million more on overtime in the subway this year but barely altered the number of major crimes. Robberies went down a bit, assaults went up.

teen casual dining hostesses are the backbone of the midwest. these girls can barely drive but will stare down 300 lb red-faced blue lives matter HOA tyrants and their whole families and tell them their table will be ready when it’s ready. they could have gotten the donner party out in one piece.

📢 PSA FOR NEWSKIES 📢
i strongly recommend at least uploading a pfp, setting a display name, putting something in your bio, and posting at least one thing (even just “hi”) before you start going on a following spree—blank profiles can be sus and lots of people block on sight.

Oh! And general tip for anyone wanting to start sewing, if you want a project to get used to your machine + managing fabric, make a quilt throw blanket. Piece the top however complex you like (curved shapes are practice for garment making!) and use a minky back, no filling. Like the one I made here.

Hey just a reminder, criticism of Israel's genocide is not in any way antisemitism, but holding members of Jewish diaspora who are not connected to Israel other than by the tenuous threads of shared religion collectively responsible for Israeli genocide is *SUPER DUPER ANTISEMITIC*
A festival in Virginia canceled a menorah lighting because they were concerned a Chanukah celebration would send the message that the festival was “supporting the killing/bombing of thousands of men, women, and children.”

They offered to reinstate the celebration if a ceasefire banner was hung.
