Gotta get Shams on here
I've made this point multiple times before but if Bluesky wants to grow, the things they need aren't opinion pundits but accounts that publish new information. That's breaking news reporters, politicians and stuff like official organization accounts that publish official statements.

Last week, @rhodesben.bsky.social and I did a Munk Debates against Kevin Roberts and Kellyanne Conway on whether Trump is leading America into a new golden age.

We won. This is from my closing statement.

There’s nothing golden about a movement that bathes in gratuitous cruelty.

Most political commentators are too polite to say this, but Trump won because of his appeal to the most important voting bloc: morons. If the Democrats want to win again the answer isn’t becoming more left or more right, it’s coming up with dumb policies that morons like

Anecdotally, I basically fell off of Marvel once the TV shows became too much to keep up with. After losing the completionist streak the movies lost a lot of their appeal too

Had a similar experience this weekend. Was fully prepared to say it holds up surprisingly well in the face of lots of current IP slop but Ewan McGregor and the costume design are basically the only things that aren’t terrible.
Went and saw Revenge of the Sith at the cinema tonight. I'm prime target for nostalgia, I was 13 when it came out, a huge SW fan.

It's irredeemably bad. I simply cannot understand the revisionism around it. My goodness.

I have occasionally checked back in on Twitter and it’s amazing how completely different the feeds on these two apps are. People reading and discussing entirely disparate topics.
If you can be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you can be told what to say or think.

Vichy Twitter not only changes what you read in the algorithmic tabs (which 99% of users use), it changes what you say by burying posts and topics that don't help Musk and Trump.
Just listened to this weeks episode of Offline (Crooked Media) and it was absolutely wild to hear the house and admit that they had not heard anything about Chris Van Holland or Corey Booker or the protest we’ve seen so far in April on Twitter.

This is insane and everyone involved needs to be sued into oblivion and then go directly to jail

Civil War was a fine movie but its politics were too vague. wouldve been way better if Jesse Plemmons turned to the camera & said "i am not a cool guy" & then specified he doesn't support liberal democracy

More fodder for my view that Stancilism is directionally correct but depends on everyone taking a good economy for granted. We might soon be in an environment where it's actually good that Democrats are pathologically compelled to focus on kitchen table issues.
Useful when thinking about “Dems need to be better at comms.” If events are clear-cut, people figure it out:

“Give money to poor kids” is THE progressive idea that:

1. Is easy to explain

2. Has relatively fast/simple implementation

3. Scales up or down cleanly depending on the vote count in Congress

4. Makes sense on the merits

Trying to escape my growing feeling that Democrats providing votes to save the country from a crisis is actually quite bad if a Republican is President.

Agree on the merits, bur the thing is that a good economy with some inflation made people go insane. They will not need a 2008 level of recession to be livid
I'm going to be in the minority on this but I don't think this is going to cause an economic collapse. Sorry to disappoint everyone.

I don't have any hot takes about Abundance, but Derek Thompson's recent episode on Ben Simmons really captures the awful state of political media. The title is just "The Future of Everything" and the main criticism of Dems is they don't "perform authenticity." Everything is sports commentary now.

I also love how idiots call public schools glorified babysitting as if a free, universal childcare system on its own wouldn’t be one of the greatest policy triumphs in all of human history.
lots of things about this are stupid but one of the stupidest is that we’re discovering that, actually, child care quality is really important.

“glorified babysitter” is an insult but it should properly be understood more like “award winning pediatrician”
Chrisman Frank, one of the educational entrepreneurs who wants to build a new generation of Elon Musks, thinks teachers are “glorified babysitters” and that AI is superior; he says his AI-based app will be a “neutron bomb” for education www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
