We cannot share a free country with these people. Either it will not be free or one group—us or them—will no longer be in this country.

They've made their choice. Have we made ours?
After Trump pushes the big lie, DeSantis jumps in to say Florida was "jipped" by Biden and he says, "I would love for them to redo the census for 26."

This is your regular reminder that the idea that Christianity is a thing uniform beliefs that everyone within “Western Civilization” believed and agreed on is a fiction that just ignores centuries of Christians killing each other and fighting literal wars over their different beliefs.
The Rubio speech really is appalling, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should.

Let's be done with the "if there even *IS* an election" gotcha. We know. The thought has occurred to all of us. It's unhelpful. I'm going to continue behaving as if I'm not powerless—as if totalitarianism isn't inevitable. Because it's not, and I'm not.

Not only that, but Democrats are expected to bend over backward to appeal to rural voters by distancing themselves from/dunking on cities, while there’s never any expecting for Republicans to do the same
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats
“The first thing I thought was, ‘What is she talking about?’” said Bryan Fish, the vice mayor of Culver City, whom everyone calls Bubba but doesn’t look like someone whom everyone calls Bubba. “The only crime here,” he added, “is like the $18 strawberry at Erewhon.”

Actual rural people are being subjugated by those suburbans: You get in an accident, you get hooked on opiods manufacturered by Joe Manchins relatives, you're in and out of jail, then eventually you get foreclosed on and some suburban cowboy with lots of Opinions buys your land for cheap

Anyone who is comfortable with having a "religious left" should be comfortable with American Civic Religion being one of the religions. Purely personally, I find both Christian and "patriotic" justifications for progressive causes tacky and unpleasant, but there's no benefit to fighting our allies.
“this is not who we are” is indistinguishable from “this is not who we want to become”; and it’s one of the most powerful rhetorical tools available to any political movement trying to marshal moral authority & civil disobedience against barbarism.

it’s good. ppl should say it.

Your refusal to understand that voting for Democrats if it means voting against fascism is not the same as full acceptance and dismissal of everything that’s wrong with Democrats is why I think you people are morons.

Please grow up.

notice that in the video quoted here the person who said he is engaging in protest for the first time in his life says, with emotion, “that’s not who we are,” in reference to ICE terrorizing grade schoolers.

think about this person every time you see someone scolding someone else for saying that
In 1854, after watching the federal government deploy 2000 federal troops and spend $40,000 sending Anthony Burns back into slavery, Boston's Amos Adams Lawrence said “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social

We bought Article II of the United Nations Charter with the blood of a hundred million human beings, and less than a century later, it's being sold for nothing by people who don't even understand what they're doing.
i think this is what drives me nuts. people talk about how, say, the UN was founded by "starry eyed idealists" who didn't understand "reality." the truth is that the UN was founded by those who had just fought and *won* the bloodiest war in human history.

Should we equate right wing rejection of the very principles of journalism in favor of partisan propaganda sources as criticisms by others of systematic *failures* to uphold the values of journalism by news companies? I think we should not consider those things to be the same phenomenon.

Are we sure it’s not because landlords became less greedy
San Diego rents fall 5.5%—proof that building housing works.

Add 6,000 apartments, prices drop.

This eases pressure on voucher programs, helps low-income renters, makes the city more accessible.

Want sustained affordability? Keep building.
