Now that we're staring down the barrel of Project 2025, I guess it's a good time to re-up this essay I wrote a few months ago exploring its plans for an authoritarian administrative state www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins...

Mamdani fucking gets it.

The era of small government is over. The only people who don't seem to recognize it are democratic centrists.

Some thoughts about the US withdrawing from the 1992 Climate Treaty entered into by George HW Bush, and the larger pattern it fits into. The U.S. can no longer be considered a responsible member of the international community.

This just creates a new avenue for a regressive wealth transfer. What am I missing?

Some familiar faces and some new faces 👀

And before anyone says anything, yes, I am aware that most libertarians are full of shit. They're just conservatives who are embarrassed to admit as much.

Now, we have our libertarian paradise!

How many self-professed libertarians voted for Trump, a third-party candidate, or not at all in the last election because they couldn't countenance voting for a relatively moderate Democrat? Has a single political commentator excoriated them the way they so freely do with progressives?

The real iron law of US politics is that only progressives are expected to compromise and be pragmatic. Everyone else is permitted to be dogmatic, regardless of the obvious harmful consequences.

I'm disgusted with libertarians every day, of course, but I've found a new gear the last 2 years

Ohio politics over the past 7 years is a tale of corruption, gutting public ed, abortion crackdowns, unleashing guns on the streets, tax cuts for the rich. And authoritarian consolidation as politicians use legal chicanery and lies to squash the opposition.

DeWine is term limited. Time to fire him
I went through the past 7 years of significant Ohio headlines. I put them all in one place. Just by reading the headlines all next to each other, year-by-year, it tells a story. And what a story. It really is worth checking out. It gives a great sense of how things have gone in Ohio since 2019.
New Editor Commentary: Ohio voters face major decisions in the 2026 Election about the future of our state. Before deciding where we go next, perhaps it's useful to consider where we've been. Here’s a look at significant headlines from the last seven years. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/01/08/o...

Has Ezra Klein weighed in on whether Good was practicing politics the right way or not?

It looks ridiculous to put it in writing, but the only way to stop this administration is to stop this administration. It's clear by now you have to say "no" to everything. You cannot compromise with them or hope they will do the right thing if you shame them enough.

Allow me to be the first: Are you surprised?!

But the recommendations for fixing Congress are actually good. Filibuster reform and expanding the House. Yes to both.
