Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Katie Wilson now leads the race for Seattle mayor by... 91 votes. Amazing.

Well, the settlement money has been announced. Each WORK that got thefted will be compensated $3k (split 50/50 bw publisher + author). So authors will be compensated $1500 per WORK stolen.

An anonymous donor just offered to match up to $1,000 to my fundraiser in support of health benefits for @scarleteen.com's staff and an as-needed health fund for volunteers, which means your $1 is worth $2! Anyone want to join in with ANOTHER match to turn that into $3?

I'm really glad I started following my local transit service on here. There's something very reassuring about seeing regular station elevator service updates amidst The Horrors

Absolutely this. Only change your party if you live in an open primary state. We need every vote to primary these fuckers.

Also, don't register "Independent" because that's the American Independent Party. Register whatever variation of "no party preference" or "decline to state" your state uses.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

Darth Vader has assured Lando Calrissian that Princess Liea and Chewbacca will be left under his supervision in Cloud City and that's good enough for Chuck Schumer.

I have anxiety. You cannot begin to fathom the number of things I am capable of worrying about simultaneously. #ShittySuperpowers
More worried about primarying 7 Democrats than voting out Republicans. I see you.

Reminder that, unless a creative freelancer has a spouse with a day job that offers health insurance, they likely have an ACA plan. And with the hits to creative industries the past few years, I'm guessing many qualify for subsidies.

Related reminder that comic creators are freelancers.
The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Schumer is either complicit or incompetent. Either way, he needs to go, and any Senator who doesn't immediately demand he step down is also complicit.

if there was a national day of cancelling your party membership over healthcare just to put the fear of god into them with some hard numbers, that’s where I think I’m at now

it’s been coming on for awhile now, I simply don’t feel represented by this party even on the things they claim as priorities
even when the democratic party has leverage and one of the craziest election swings the party intentionally self immolates it’s just so exhausting what is even the point of these people

I guess I need a job that comes with healthcare in the next month and a half or I don't get to *checks notes* keep breathing. All the plans that cover the one (1) inhaler that doesn't spike my blood pressure are $2k+ a month. Paying out of pocket would be just as bad. It's a fucking generic.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

It’s not mental illness to be anxious when people are fucking with your healthcare. It’s not wrong to be depressed when powerful people choose evil and suffering. Feeling things about a crisis does not mean you are broken, even if the crisis is perpetual!

I work at a soup kitchen, if, during this tough time when SNAP is not available, you need food. Please don't feel weird coming to us. We do not ask questions and understand everyone is having a hard time. We are here to help. The food is hot and fresh and we all come in early to help everyone.

I will also add:

I can do this for evictions in Illinois too, if SNAP benefits being cut off or the government shutdown means you can't make rent.
If you're arrested in Illinois for the means by which you acquire food for your family because of the government shutdown or loss of SNAP benefits, I can represent you pro bono. Email me at sheryl@weikallaw.com. As always, I will take as many cases as I can.
