My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Pardon power is not the problem. More people should be freed from this vicious system. Corruption and organized crime as governance are the problem. Shady pardons are just one symptom of the much larger clusterfuck we're in. If you zoom in too much on any detail as "the problem," you lose the plot.

A new national security document released by the White House claimed without evidence that Europe is facing "civilizational erasure," echoing the white nationalist "great replacement theory" — a comparison the White House called "total nonsense." on.nbcboston.com/hfaSDnJ

We don't know if they had drugs, and if they had drugs, they still weren't combatants. You don't get to bomb people because you claim they have drugs.
Has drugs ≠ Making war

These are distinctly different things, and it’s important to maintain a grip on reality in the face of fascists trying to destroy it.

There is no possible way any of the people on these US-attacked boats could get “back in the fight” because they weren’t ever in one.
“It looks like two classically shipwrecked people,” Rep Adam Smith told me, calling it “highly questionable decision that these two people on that obviously incapacitated vessel were still in any kind of fight.”

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.

That's the part that sticks with me.

This isn't some Tom Clancy novel where they do war crimes because it's the only way they can get at the evil terrorist criminal mastermind or something.

Even if we believe them -- and, ha ha, no! -- they murdered low level drug runners. That's it!
this is just murder, and pointless murder at that.

I know most do not care

I know many do care
about cute fuzzy animals,
so even if you don’t care
about what bird flu
may do to humans
perhaps you’ll care
that it recently killed
8 kittens in the Netherlands.

SCOOP: Sources tell me Donald Trump's name was added to the exterior of the US Institute of Peace building ahead of Thursday's peace agreement signing between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which will be held inside the building. Confirming if it's been officially renamed.

CATO's report on ICE's increased focus on non-criminals talks about opportunity cost in terms of actual criminals whom ICE leaves alone.

But think, too, how much $$ has been shifted into arresting peaceful neighbors away from things like curing cancer (my annotation).

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

Politicians love to talk about "kids safety" until you ask them to do something that would actually keep kids safe like fund housing, healthcare, education, outdoor spaces, arts programs, etc.

That's because most of them use "safety" as a euphemism for surveillance, control and domination.
