cleaning headstones seems like it should be easy but it's deceptive! especially stones that are already in bad shape (marble melts like sugar over time) or have biological growth like lichen

The common denominator in all of these stories--predetermined outcomes, iffy data and bogus metrics, the torching of campus communities--is consultants, most prominently the rpk group. There's only one reason these firms are engaged by admins. They only know one "solution."

Note to authors, @draft2digital.bsky.social (who until now I *have* been using as an ebook distributor, and who *have* been doing a good job, and who also own Smashwords) have a survey about "AI" use at at draft2digital.wufoo.com/forms/d2d-ai... I think you should fill in. Like this.

We should attack transphobia head-on simply because it is a disgusting ideology, but if that's not enough for you, it's a system of control that stems from a patriarchal assumption about what a woman "should" be whose natural end is rigid gender roles upheld by state violence. Which seems bad!
the attacks on Ella Emhoff (as well as Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khalif) are part of what trans people have correctly warned about for a long time: the rise in transphobia will target cis women too.

Not being able to get Adderall since December '23 caused issues with my other meds. In a domino of side effects, this caused an infection that slowly ate away at my upper jaw. Repeated misdiagnoses meant 6 months of pain, 6k in dental bills. Not so hard to imagine a timeline in which I went septic.

Listen, I don’t particularly like Hillary Clinton. But the image of her standing on that DNC stage and listening to a thunderous chant of LOCK HIM UP?

Yeah, I enjoy that, I unironically love that for her

It's kind of funny how many senior staff and columnists at two legacy newspapers are super mad the Harris-Walz campaign won't grant them interviews while so many other people are like "I bet the Hot Ones interview will be super interesting, Tim Walz will probably just be dying the entire time"

- if you offered others squid facts
- how you made people feel when you told them a squid fact

Hey, science fiction writers. A request to make.

Normally it's unethical to discuss a story we didn't buy. But years later, there's a "one that got away" I still think about, and I REALLY want to know who wrote it.

Did YOU write about space snails taking over the anglican church?

the biggest fairy tale adults tell themselves on the daily is they're not one medical emergency or layoff or divorce away from being homeless
"“It’s not fair for the good citizens,” one comment reads. “They are lazy and will commit crimes,” another one says. (A 2023 study found that more than half of adults in homeless shelters have jobs and about 40% of people sleeping on the street are employed.)"

Related: Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones obviously draws plot inspiration from the War of the Roses, but I really think the “sweating sickness” that plagued the British Isles should’ve made it in. Unknown virus (hantavirus?) that killed able-bodied adults in 24 hours? Brutal plot potential
Why didn’t my British history class teach me that Henry VII was *so* into his wife? Sure seems like he adored her. When seeking a new wife he gave his aides a description of his ideal and it was just…his deceased wife?

Obviously not a trait his son (Henry VIII) inherited!
