In 1995, before I was in game development, I wrote a 2-page letter to GamePro magazine. My thesis was that Donkey Kong Country, while visually stunning, was fundamentally mundane because it brought nothing to the side scroller/platformer genre.
I assume they didn't print it, but I can't be sure.

My uninvited bilinear filtering was coming from the default megascans master material.
I can't find anything in there that's specifically about filtering, so it's just easier to take the textures and stick them in a barebones material.

It's just hard for a movie to have the memetic potential/quotability etc that we associate with "big cultural impact" if everyone sees it in a movie theater exactly once (even if the number of people who see it like that is extraordinarily high)

There's a timeline where some subset of computer components simply never got common enough or small enough for home computers (or consoles) to exist.
In that timeline, arcades never went away; they just kept getting better.
