I really dislike how much attention people are paying to Minnesota nationally right now. Please pay attention to [rolls dice] Delaware instead.

I’m so disgusted by this story. I swear to god that social media has destroyed the world. All these tourists flocking to see the king tide and then destroying the animals www.reddit.com/r/sandiego/s...

I still believe in human art, & craft, & spirit. I always will. but the people making it need us to circulate it, to make sure it doesn’t get lost in aggregate networks of noise. read curiously. circulate, on social & off. and support the people pushing for a stranger, kinder world. like the above.

worth noting that this neighborhood has a set up a coordinated response to ice/fascism on the ground in minneapolis. they are defending their neighborhoods and standing up for black and brown neighbors down the street and abroad.

Made my 5 calls this morning and I hope the politicians love the sound of my 4yo screaming into the phone. 🤷‍♀️

Happy first day of Paid Leave, Minnesota!
The largest change is the rollout of paid family and medical leave as Minnesota becomes just the 13th state in the nation with such a policy.
New year brings new laws, including paid family leave
From a major new paid leave benefit to the end of the deer shotgun zone, Jan. 1 brings several new laws.

I had a nice little pack of 5 star reads this year. Some real baddies. I’d probably put The Reformatory as my favorite book, followed by My Friends.

I just have to say that it’s really bizarre seeing Minnesota in the news so much. I’m so used to no one knowing about the state. It’s always been a hidden gem, a place people write off because it’s cold and in the Midwest without realizing what a well-run great state it is.

Only about 20 this year, rough reading year for me. 2025 I’ll do better.
NEW: How many books did you read this year? If it was more than 2, congrats: you read more than the median American.

EXCLUSIVE: @laurenweberhp.bsky.social & I have spent the last year collecting school+county-level vaccination data from across the US and found that only about 28% of counties now have herd immunity for kindergartners from measles—that leaves about 5.2mn kids unprotected.

U.S. vaccination rates are plunging. Look up where your school stands.
Take a look to see what the kindergarten measles vaccination rates are in your area.

A major homeless encampment in St. Paul has remained relatively clean and calm, with dumpsters to keep trash in check, portable toilets for residents and frequent visits from outreach workers.
St. Paul’s largest encampment has grown, but problems have been relatively few
Unlike Minneapolis, St. Paul provides dumpsters and toilets, and city officials say that helps.

Even I, with no children, know that you cannot just roll up on a childcare center and ask to be let in and see the kids. If you are stupid enough to give Nick Shirley _any_ credence, I am shocked that you're able to function as an adult.
uhhh yeah I can see why these childcare properties weren't eager to let in some rando dudes asking "where are the kids?"

Been trying to think of New Year’s Resolutions but honestly 2026 is shaping up to be a downright crazy year. Our plan is to move to MN, and very few things will derail that plan unless husband gets a job that requires him to be onsite in Irvine.
