I do not think military actions in terms of responsibility of the population, but in terms of enforcing the norm of non-aggression.

I think the collective responsibility of the people should not directly be used as a justification of even relatively minor collective punishments ...

This is exactly it.

You can have optimism in mourning: knowing that people will die and lives will be diminished but also believing that everything we do now matters and will help.
Well said.

For me, optimism does not mean "everything will turn out okay." Optimism means "a solution exists, and my efforts matter."

Without this kind of optimism nothing gets done, and yeah, that's a guaranteed that things will *not* turn out okay.

So RFK Jr is paying nuts in Denmark to go to one of the poorest places on earth, tell half their group their children are in line to get vaccinated for free with something that’s been saving lives for decades and is already fully proven safe, and not actually vaccinate them.
RFK Jr. has awarded $1.6 million to a group in Denmark to conduct a randomized, single-blind study of the birth dose of Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) to be conducted in Guinea-Bissau.

In my opinion, this is, quite simply, completely unethical, unacceptable, and predatory.

Here’s why.

EXCLUSIVE: The Trump administration is asking U.S. oil companies if they’re interested in returning to Venezuela once Maduro is toppled, per sources familiar with the discussions.

So far, the answer is a hard “no.”
Trump administration asking US oil industry to return to Venezuela — but getting no takers
The administration’s outreach to the industry, previously unreported, is the latest sign the White House is dreaming of a post-Maduro future for Venezuela.

"but that didn't work"

Of course it didn't. Haven't had enough people pull the Democrat lever in 50 years. We're looking into ways to make pulling the Democrat lever do more with less pulling but we can't do any of it unless enough people pull the Democrat lever. Funny how that works

There are FIVE different “Trump was a piece of shit about 9/11” stories.

That’s almost impossible without being Bin Laden.

But Trump pulled it off!
One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

actually I could probably have gotten within striking distance of predicting some of this.

people saying the future is only ever vast and unknowable are just as obnoxious and annoying as people that insist it can be predicted down to a letter far in advance. neither of these things are true
In 2023, imagine trying to predict that some of the top issues of 2025 would be tariffs, potential war with Venezuela, mass deportations, and the Epstein files. Or that JD Vance would be VP, or that Elon Musk would have gutted the Federal Government. We're in year 1; god only knows what 4 will be
