Pneumonia would have ended me at age 4. So, yeah. Same answer as @wiswell.bsky.social.

I don't know enough medical history to calculate my odds case-by-case, but I've had some life-saving hospital visits that would just been leeches and last rites a couple of centuries earlier.
People always ask, "What would you do if you were born in another time period?"

With my health the answer is almost always, "Die before kindergarten."

Medical progress is the real deal, buddies.
before antibiotics did people just die all the time from everything?

This is an excellent point. If you're a comics person accustomed to working in a particular way for comic-book output, you should pay close attention to your publisher's requirements if you're making comics for inclusion in a different kind of book.
Speaking as a book production person who has had to print a graphic short story in an otherwise text-based book, please do NOT create it as spreads. The production folks can put the pages together as you wish.

You might want to confirm with the publisher what the dimensions should be?

I'm working on a comic mini-story (13pp) that will be consumed almost exclusively by people reading it in a book.

This means they'll be reading page spreads (left and right pages both visible at once,) which suggests that I should be *creating* it as page spreads.

This is hard on the CPU.

I think pancakes should be ordered in the same way copper wire is sold.

GAUGE.

I need some 18AWG, 2-conductor wire for low-voltage DC lights.

I need a 3-stack of 6x100mm pancakes, no fruit, for a sweet breakfast.

FANBOY: "Where do you get your ideas?"
ME: "Wrong question."
FB: "Wait, what?"
ME: "It's not the where, it's not even the ideas."

[convo redacted for brevity]

FB: "So... how do you execute on your ideas so that they seem wondrous, or scary, or romantic, or whatever?"
ME: "Excellent question!"

I got followed by a UK-based fiction competition for first-time novelists. Just pay the 25-pound entry fee and okay stop, full stop, hard stop, [record-scratch noise].

Blocked.

In the "broken watch is correct twice daily" category, RFK's push to change "GRAS" classification for processed foods is, to my mind, a good thing that is too long coming.

GRAS = Generally Recognized As Safe, and it is how a bazillion additives and artificials got grandfathered past FDA testing.

A decade or so ago I invented the biscuits-and-gravy breakfast chimichanga (recipe follows). I never really explored other B&G fusions until today (story continues after recipe).

Woke up to good news. The deadline for ballot initiatives is 32 hours away, and the re-gerrymandering petition from Utah GOP and Turning Point is still, after months of canvassing, far short of the signatures required to make the cut. The Utah Supreme Court just said the deadline stands.

Sometimes you spend all day working on a picture in order to figure out your drawing the wrong thing.

I'm silent on the outside, but my soul's scream is rattling both Heaven and Hell.

The angels and demons are jointly demanding hearing protection from management.

Spent all of yesterday's art cycles noodling on this. It's not done, but now I have all the volumes defined and know what it looks like so I can come back to it later and fine-tune.

I left some scraps of pastrami on a plate on the counter overnight and they dried all the way out so *of course* I ate one and now I need an angel investor to help me open a jerked pastrami factory.

I could go on and on about this exact point.

Short version: When something's grammatically tricky to sort out, I often find I'm presenting the information in the wrong order, or trying to use too few words. So I ask what I truly mean to convey, and then rewrite to those specs.
Sometimes the answer to the question "How should this sentence be punctuated?" is "It should be entirely rewritten."

I'm using my Bad-Bunny-budgeted Peacock membership to watch THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, the TV series starring Lashana Lynch and Eddie Redmayne.

It's good, but it does seem to stray from one of the core conceits of the book and the Bruce Willis movie.
