My contention for those on the right who have always been a fan of gerrymandering is that the dilution of voting power is the forfeiture of ideas in that gerrymandering is an admission that you have no ideas that are broadly popular.

I have never had a conservative admit to this when confronted.
🚨BREAKING: In a sweeping victory for voters, a Utah court struck down the GOP-controlled legislature’s congressional gerrymander and a companion law designed to entrench partisan power — restoring a fair map for the 2026 elections. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

I think one of the final lessons from Kim Davis is that hate fries brains. When you look at the details of her life and look at how much she likely has dumped into pursuing this, is ruining your future over hate worth it? Why is it that people who ask themselves that often seem to think it is?
New: The Supreme Court DENIES Kim Davis' request to overturn Obergefell, the marriage equality decision. No noted dissents. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

Don't tell the ancient Greeks, Indians, and Chinese, who were already using lodestone for various things specifically because of its magnetic properties over 2000 years ago.
Trump: "Nobody knows what magnets are."

Please think about the price paid by others to preserve freedom on this Armistice Day / Remembrance Day / Veterans Day.

With nations and institutions under threat from the sorts of people some of immediate forebearers once bravely fought off, we need to think of such sacrifice now more than ever.

Unemployment ran around 10% in Michigan, higher in some parts of Metro Detroit, for quite a while in the early 80s. It was brutal for a lot of people.

I remember grocery store having no-name foodstuffs in plain boxes for cheap though, and I remember that aisle being the busiest one in some places.
Wasn't there a point in the early 80's where unemployment in the US approached 10%? Some of my friends from that time have fond memories of unemployment checks, food stamps, and other not so fun things

Well, Joyce Carol Oates doubted that he read, and if this is your take on The Iliad, you have not read it.

It would absolutely cost more and suck. Even corporate plans, some of which aren't terrible comparatively speaking, will begin to slide because insurance companies will hemorrhage money from the ACA hits.

Also, I don't want to negotiate my insurance. I'm not a fucking insurance lawyer, asshat.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

I have this image of Elon walking down a hall at Tesla: "I KNOW THE ALPHABET, PEOPLE. DON'T TEST ME."
so joyce carol oates owned elon so hard he's been taking out ads on X saying he has in fact read a book and watched a movie and he's clearly spiraling and unable to recover from such a vicious own i say to my wife as she frantically pulls out of the driveway

*looks at daily SNAP benefits*

*looks at salmon for dinner*

No, no one does that. They need them because, in many cases, their employers do not pay a living wage, which is a form of inhumane behavior all its own.
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

Well, when you put it like that....

So kill it on the next vote, right?
In the most predictable development ever, Mike Johnson is not committing to hold a House vote on ACA subsidies

They have to vote again Friday, right? This alone should be a deal breaker, as well as the other stuff.

Again, when these people learned the game, there were people like this, that would, at least to some extent, work across the aisle. It's entirely feasible that exists again some day.

Right now, it does not, so hearing Senators try to wish that into existence in the present moment is infuriating.
No words

My senator is speaking like she just suffered a major head injury and thinks it's 1993
