President Trump won’t forget John Fetterman’s vote to end the shutdown on Republican terms. The senator can expect a full pardon the next time he pulls a gun on a black jogger.

An official position of DSA btw
Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.

I don't block people for much but I got a hair trigger for the Dem defenders. I expect the Republicans to try and dismantle the country; that's their plan and they say it out loud. But I voted for the people who are supposed to oppose that plan and they're not doing that so why would I support them
I’m watching Hakeem Jeffries fight for his life to defend the Senate Democrats. Naturally their inability to fight is due to the Republicans 🙄

Indivisible going from Nancy Pelosi fanclubs in 2017 to an actual Tea Party type opposition in 2026 would rule honestly, LFG
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

I'm on Long Island (which has been pretty bad for us recently!), I'm running in what's a swing district by any charitable measure, and capitulation to the Republicans ruining our country is Vichy behavior and should not be tolerated.

The fascists only win if we enable them. Fucking fight back.
This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

As someone on the record for generally not believing in rotating villain theory, if you think that there were exactly enough defections to make it 60-40 and these defections all coincidentally came from Democrats who are retiring/not up for a while, you're a mark

yeah this is with leadership’s blessing and you’ll never convince me otherwise. the whip is a yes, the rest of the yes’s are retiring or 4-6 years out from a primary, this is trash.
so currently defectors are:

Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Warner is up for reelection. He was widely seen driving towards surrender behind the scenes, but he's voting no in public because it's unpopular. The real question is whether he supports a senate leadership change. If not, someone who supports senate leadership change should primary him.
But I cannot support a deal that still leaves millions of Americans wondering how they are going to pay for their health care or whether they will be able to afford to get sick.

Health care isn’t negotiable.

We need to both reopen the government and work together to protect access to affordable health care by extending the ACA enhanced premium tax credits.

Great so you'll be taking action to oust Schumer from leadership?
I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Senate Democrats think this is the appropriate response because they begin every conflict with the assumption they will lose, and then ask “How can we end this as quickly as possible while creating the appearance of having tried to win so the base isn’t mad?”
I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

No. No, no, no. This is Trump's shutdown no matter when or how it ends. Without his foolishness we could have avoided all of this.
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

It doesn’t matter if your senator is part of the cave group. Every squish is gonna want cover from their colleagues to smooth over their idiotic decision. Call your senator, tell them to pressure their colleagues and to publicly denounce their cowardice. Then call again. Don’t stop calling.
