If we pick up a hose and start spraying water all over our own house just to put out the fire, then we’re just as bad as it is.

Minneapolis is headed towards something resembling a general strike, if you were wondering how the campaign to cow working people into quiescence is going
Last night, The Minneapolis Federation of Educators Local 59 signed on to the call for a Jan 23 shutdown. That brings total labor support to: the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1005, SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, CWA Local 7250, St. Paul Federation of Educators Local 28, and the MFE 59
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

This seems like misdirection. People want their laws enforced, including laws against assault and murder- laws that are being violated by these federal goons. What he's really saying is the state and local authorities can't do that, which is the real problem

So tired of this. We need a jobs program for psychopaths, with legal immunity and billions in funding, so they don't go freelance
It’s worth considering that an overnight dismantling of ICE in 2029 would release into the wild a whole herd of specialists in violence with scant other marketable skills.

This is the dynamic across most of America: Liberal cities generate revenue, which state governments then transfer to benefit conservative rural areas, whose residents despite city-dwellers and consistently vote to harm them. But politicians endlessly pander to rural voters and demonize cities.
Another critical piece of missing context in this story: tax dollars flow from the MSP metro to rural Minnesota. People in the city subsidize the lifestyles of people living in the country minnesotareformer.com/2023/12/04/t...

The fact that there hasn't been an eviction moratorium issued is the sort of thing that lawmakers should be forced to answer for. Abject, unnecessary cruelty in a crisis.
Neighbors in Minneapolis are keeping neighbors housed in the midst of the federal occupation—thousands of dollars are being raised via mutual aid networks to help pay rent.

Meanwhile, the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority filed 38 evictions yesterday against some of our most vulnerable neighbors

This is fantasy. Local cops routinely fail to represent the interest of their community during ICE invasions across the country, regardless of comparative numbers.

It is culture that keeps cops on the sidelines + on the attack when it comes to protestors.

On the whole, the police back ICE.
To the people out of state who keep saying “why won’t the local cops stop ICE” you need to understand that ICE is overwhelmingly the largest force on the ground in Minneapolis. They outnumber Minneapolis cops four to one. They’re more likely to stop the cops than the other way around
The Star Tribune had an insane graphic about the presence of immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. There are more immigration officers in the metro right now than local police officers.

I think this post commits the classic fallacy of forgetting that two things can be true
I think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.
